No, it was a very simple analogy that pointed out that advancing on the battlefield does not necessarily equal strategic victory. You claimed that Ukraine was losing ground on the battlefield and must therefore be losing the conflict, so I used an analogy to show why your logic was wrong.

Enlighten us on the reality that you are bringing. Tell us something we have wrong. Tell us something insigtful. Or tell us something that you know, that we don't.

Tell us.....anything....that fulfils the role of you bringing "reality" to this discussion.

Again. Your analogy is awful.

Yards at a time! They’re averaging a football field per month and only at the cost of a few thousand soldiers. #winning

Unlike 2 years of Germany beating Russia in WWII, when it was Russia losing thousands per day while Germany advanced in kilometers per day.

I really don't understand why the "Russia is winning BIGLY" crowd keep going back to the territory argument. They are sending somewhat significant, but not huge, amounts of troops in very select areas to actually try to gain ground, but for the most part since they lines settled they've kind of just been sitting there and shelling with artillery and launching missiles and rockets.

The real argument on the 'Russia is winning' side is that it seems they feel content grinding down Ukraine at the current pace. The counter to that is maybe that's what they are doing because they just aren't capable of capturing much ground even if they decided to put significant resources into it. The reality is probably somewhere in between.

Several weeks ago Russia was gaining ground at very high cost, but that appears to have been reversed of late.

This is my favorite kind of post in an internet forum. It's basically: "You guys are such fricking idiots. You have no idea what's really going on. If you can't see it, I'm just not sure what to tell you."

Bless us, Enlightened One.....

I'd hate to be a chinaman trying to invade Vietnam again. When those trees start speaking Vietnam, it's over.

Then they arrived at Stalingrad.

How much did they advance this week?

Because in 2021 they held about 12,% of Ukraine.

Then by the end of March 2022 they held about 24%.

Then by the end of September it was back down to about 16%.

And now I think it's something like 17%.

Another decade of this and they'll be almost to Odessa.

You’re right, it’s probably less than a football field. They can’t even capture Vovchansk.

This war is costing us one quarter of one percent of our growing GDP, annualy.

This war is costing Russia 8% of it's shrinking GDP, annually.

We can borrow money. Russia cannot.

We can build all the critical weapons needed. Russia cannot.

It's absolutely a matter of political will. But we can afford this war far easier, and for far longer than Russia can.
