Has anyone else seen the video of citizens in the occupied territories being brought to the polling place. There are no voting booths and armed soldiers are watching the residents fill out their ballots.

You're likely correct, but they're anti-Putin enough to drive vehicles straight at the Russians.
Not sure if this is brilliant/clever or desperate from the AFU/"Anti-Putin" forces.
Unless they think they can actually drive tanks to Moscow, their "invasion" is unlikely to have any sort of success.

If Russia doesn't do anything about it they çan set up camp and stay awhile and become the de facto government. Russia can't allow that to happen. So they will have to fortify the region with troops they desperately need at the front line.

Even she has sided with Ukraine. The political board must be so heartbroken.

How pathetic our politicians are when France can act as the leader of the free world.

Putin has pissed off and pushed out a lot of Russians in the past 24 years.

They’re white nationalists.
They like how homogeneous Ukraine is, they reject the multi ethnic nature of the Russian Federation, and they worry about demographic replacement in Russia. Moscow has been importing cheap labor from Central Asia for a long time although it’s not as significant as you see in Western countries. It depends on the person and the group, but some of these people would like Russia to split off the republics to create a purely Russian state.
It’s not a major movement.

Pretty hard to pay back a 16 million euro “loan” to a Russian oligarch when he’s on the sanctions list. Le Pen the old whore knows she won’t have to pay it back to a ghost.

That’s hysterical coming from you. How do you type this stuff with a straight face? At least SirWinston is being somewhat facetious.

If France truly follows through with sending actual troops and first-rate weaponry I'd begrudgingly root for Ukraine / NATO again in the hopes that a quick overwhelming push could force peace.
I don't like it and I don't support Lil Mac's decision, but if he truly means to WIN FAST and END the war (instead of dragging it out for 20 years of profit like our evil MIC and Biden / UK alliance mean to do) than I will reluctantly switch sides.
But the second that they start hemming and hawing and delaying actual aid and weaponry and Russia starts gaining again I'll be back to the rubicon.
P.S. It makes zero sense to have waited THREE YEARS for this. It's still disgusting no matter what happens from here on out. But whatever ends it quickly and with the most deaths prevented, that's what side I'm on.

Putin gets flack for being too soft by the hardliners, nationalists dislike his pro multiethnic policies, and ethnic Russian Liberals don’t like him because their identity is caught up with being as western as possible, and they have an often ambivalent attitude towards Russia itself. Jewish Russian Liberals don’t like him, for a lot of reasons, it’s everything from the way he stepped on some of the Jewish oligarchs, to his efforts to promote family values and Christianity. Everyone would acknowledge that life is better today in 2024 than it is in 1998 or even 2008.
Overall, I have the impression that Putin is genuinely popular. Groups like the liberals are a small slice of society.

Sir Winston should love them.

If Ukrainians think the way to preserve their culture and heritage is by cozying up to NATO they are in for a VERY rude awakening

Ukraine has a new culture and that’s a culture of hating Russia.

I wonder how many Russian troops will be needed to keep Putin from being embarrassed.

Yeah, I definitely didn't have Macron stepping up the "We cannot be weak" rhetoric on my bingo card.
With that Macron/Putin phone call and the interview now, he is the only one showing some kind of balls in the situation. He sees that Russia has gained a significant upper hand on the ground and he is trying to open the eyes of Ukraine's allies that they must act quick. I'd love to see France take the initiative for the Europeans in stopping Russia. I still don't support any outside troops being put on the ground in Ukraine or Russia, but if he can wake everyone up and get the flow of more and better weapons faster, then I'm all for it.
I just hope he's willing to actually back up his words and isn't doing this for political goodwill from French citizens.

He was, but he spent that political capital and is now overdrawn. He can control the media and intimidate oligarchs, but he can't hide a couple of hundred thousand men with broken bodies from the families at the kitchen table.
