Democrats Move Discharge Petition for Ukraine Aid
February 22, 2024
Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, the top-ranking Democrat on the House Rules Committee, quietly filed a resolution on Feb. 15 for consideration of a bill “to advance responsible policies”—a possible vehicle to force a vote on Ukraine aid.
The McGovern resolution started the clock on the ability to gather signatures on a new discharge petition to force a vote on the bipartisan, Senate-passed foreign-aid package if Johnson continues to refuse to put it on the floor for an up-or-down vote.

A discharge petition to try to force a Ukraine aid bill to the House floor is underway, with plans for it to be available for signatures by March 1, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Newsweek also reports that some Republicans have started a media blitz to support congressional Republicans who favor a discharge petition for Ukraine aid.

Thanks for the update. The sooner it's put to a vote the better.

you are not a republican.
I'm 51 and have never voted for a Democrat for any federal office, but this might be the year.
The GOP is increasingly not a place for Reagan conservatives like me.

I always vote for the best candidate. It’s not always a good choice.
You can’t throw away your vote and go third party, you can’t vote Dem, and the way I see it you only have one choice.

Same here, but the last Democrat I found worthy of voting for was 2 decades ago, and I had already moved from the area to Baton Rouge. That candidate was more a fiscal hawk than 1/2 the LA state GOP contingent.

I voted Dem for my state Senator. No Republican made the runoff. I tried to pick the best of the worst, lol.

The fact that close to 15 million swarthy illegal men will have invaded our border during Biden's term and it doesn't move the needle for you is probably proof that you are indeed no longer a Republican.
Won't even mention all the woke LGBTQ nonsense and the DEI stuff they are pushing on Zoomers and younger.

RFE/RL: Hungary blocks shared EU statement to commemorate 2nd anniversary of full-scale war
by Nate Ostiller February 23, 2024 6:47 PM
Hungary has blocked a joint statement from the EU commemorating the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported on Feb. 23, citing sources.
Hungary and Ukraine have had a contentious relationship that has worsened since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has maintained close ties with Russia, threatening the united front that the EU has tried to present in support of Ukraine.
Despite tending to ultimately support collective EU votes on Ukraine in exchange for concessions and exceptions, Hungary has continued to behave in an obstructionist manner.
The collective statement was intended to come from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and European Council President Charles Michel, and needed unanimous consent from all EU member states to pass.
