I am pretty sure they are still in a quasi-war with Ethiopia, so I would not be surprised if they are buying Russian weapons. That's a guess- I don't know much Eritrean history-but it makes sense.

I like to think I'm reasonably smart, or at least slightly above the mean intelligence, but this one got me one time. Around 2005, I was working with a civil engineer who was very African. I asked him where he was from and he said "Eritira," and I was stumped. I could not fathom that I did not know a certain country existed or where it was.
If it makes you feel any better, it wasn't founded until 1993 and has a GDP on par with Alexandria, LA, so there's a reason you probably haven't heard of it. It's basically Somalia Jr.
Edit: I just realized I mispelled it. frick it. That's how much I know about Eritrea.

They're involved, supporting Ethiopia, in a nasty war against the Tigray Region. They're also up there with North Korea in terms of freedom.
