Chatter on Twitter that the commander that ordered the formation and wait is the same commander that ordered the Vuhledar armored kamikaze charge last year. General Suhkrab Akhmedov.

Obviously one of Russia's best and brightest military minds.

All this did not go unnoticed by the Ukrainians. The UAV operators found the column, transmitted the exact coordinates, and HIMARS and artillery destroyed the column.

[Russian sources]blame the commander of Russia's 20th Combined Arms Army Major General Sukhrab Akhmedov who was previously blamed for the heavy losses from the 155th NIB in Pavlivka in November. Grey Zone says he and Muradov were promoted in February due to fabricated reports.

Yes, he needs to be promoted again. The best General Ukraine has.

Interesting assessment though Ukraine can cross the Dnipro easily by August or as early as mid July

I didn't see that assessment in the article at the link. Can you quote it?

I know the US Navy has dabbled with this before and I know that dolphins can be trained

US Navy Seals used dolphins to de-mine the Kuwait harbour during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Teams of one Navy Seal and the Dolphin he had trained with were dropped off one night into the harbour. The dolphins found the mines, then bobbed up and down at the surface. The frogman then swam over and attached an explosive. This was repeated for each of the mines. Once all the mines were tagged, the frogmen and the Dolphins were pulled out. Then all the explosives were triggered remotely.

The WSJ did a 40 min doc on Wagner. not really a lot of new info for most of us but it did give me a more complete picture of their dealings in Africa.

They didn't do well going toe to toe with the US in Syria. We suffered ZERO casualties in men and equipment.

How similar or different from Blackwater (Constellis I think is their current name) is Wagner anyway? I mean beyond the fact that Wagner will have you hit in the head w/a sledgehammer if you frick up.

Wagner actually has ownership stakes in some of these properties they're securing in Africa. It's not only getting paid to guard them, it's getting income from the mineral revenue. It looks to me like Wagner wants to be a state within the Russian state, and maybe even THE Russian state. Putin needs Wagner, but it's also a threat to him.

Whether Erik Prince has ever harbored ambitions like that IDK, but he's nowhere near implementing them.

Prigozhin spoke (or wrote, not sure which) about this the other day, it's linked somewhere back in the thread. He explicitly accused the Russian MoD of setting Wagner up, promising them air cover, SAMs and artillery, then not even answering the radio when they called for support.

That doesn’t really make him look smart.

Does he honestly think Russian regular forces were going to directly insinuate themselves against Americans for 250 Wagner soldiers?

Sounds more like he was told “sure man, go for it. We’re right behind you”

Russia MOD said it wasn't them, thus attacked by US

It's interesting that the WSJ put that outside of their pay wall. The Russians are holding one of the WSJ's journalists and accusing him of being a spy. And in return the WSJ seems to be turning up the heat on Russia with some more in depth stories than they typically had been doing. Good documentary, though we've heard most of it before. But it ties things all together nicely.

Wagner is used much more in direct action while companies under the Constellis umbrella are primarily involved in private security. Certainly, there is an overlap as Wagner is often used as private security (though more often than not it is a ruse to steal what they are protecting) and Constellis almost certainly handles some black bag direct action.

The way I understand it… US asked Russian MOD if it was their men in Syria… Russias response was No… turns out the men were Wagner… thus the ‘setup’ accusation from Prigozhin.

Things picked up today.

Russian bombers up and active, last count was 8 moving toward launch zone.

8

27m
One more now over Saratov, 7 in total for this moment

33m
Summary for now: 1 Tu-95 prob. flying over the launch zone, 5 more approaching estimated in 40 minutes first's and in an hour +- few minutes last.

A very good review of Russian claims that they are using AI to target and control Lancet loitering munitions by Sam Bendett from the Centre of Naval Analyse. Short answer not likely right now, long answer very likely long term.

It is quite long so I won't post quotes but encourage anyone interested in this development arm of warfare to go read it and several of his other threads on drone warfare capability evolution are great.

Looks like there is a disagreement between Chuck Pfarrer and Julian Roepcke, two of least reliable accounts from the Pro-Ukraine camp.

Reasonably short objective analysis on the state of the offensive since it kicked off and what the likely trajectory and challenges Ukraine will face in achieving meaningful results

https://rusi.org/explore-our-research/publications/commentary/ukraines-counteroffensive-begins-shall-leopards-break-free

On top of the 5 claimed as destroyed earlier Ukraine is claiming they have captured a 152mm MSTA-S SPG. Quite likely this is one of the ones already reported but if another that is an entire artillery battery gone.

https://twitter.com/Artur_Micek/status/1669077655889559552

In the region of the Ukrainian attack near Velyka Novosilka, the AU forces probably captured a damaged or broken Russian 152 mm MSTA gun-howitzer.

Interesting claim from Tartarigami regarding a Russia directive to change friendly markings on military vehicles.

https://twitter.com/Tatarigami_UA/status/1668978947319640065

quote:

Russian units received new instructions for vehicle markings. According to the guidelines, the markings must be 60 cm long and 20 cm wide, divided into equal halves - red on the left, white on the right.

P.S: It's quite reminiscent of Tommy Hilfiger. What's next? Calvin Klein?
