U.S. to Send Advanced Missile Defense System to Ukraine
The U.S. said it would send Ukraine an advanced missile-defense system and additional artillery ammunition and radar systems, as President Biden participated in a Group of Seven summit focused on supporting Ukraine and countering Russia.
The U.S. will provide a NASAMS system, which is a medium-to-long-range surface-to-air missile-defense system, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said.
Other new security assistance includes additional artillery ammunition and counter-battery radars to address needs expressed by the Ukrainian military, Mr. Sullivan said.

It's taken a few months but it now appears NATO is going to be drawn into this. This is primarily because Russia has had enough of NATO. I don't think NATO will fight in Ukraine but it is a matter of time until they fight in the Baltics and perhaps Poland. It will be interesting to see how Belarus holds up in this.

Of course condition on the battlefield will dictate the terms. Thats the problem. The conditions on the battlefield are in Russia’s favor. The longer the fighting goes on, the more the conditions on the battlefield will weigh in Russia’s favor.
Understood.
My point is that things on the battle field need to change a lot more than they are changing now to give Russia more leverage

The reality on the ground is Russia is winning. They’re taking serious losses. But they are advancing and capturing territory and achieving their war aims.
They are achieving their REVISED war aims. Their initial plan failed and their current plan is going in the right direction, but not very quickly. If Russian advances at a quicker pace then they will have a lot more leverage in settlement talks than they would have by slowly moving west.
I think I’m being realistic here, there are different degrees of winning.

In their best (worst) traditions Russians are vehemently denying any responsibility for the terrorist attack in Kremenchug. The narrative pushed right now is that Ukraine itself launched rocket strikes at their own people. But hey, “it was business as usual” after MH-17, so…

Remember, initially they said Russia was being careful not hurt civilians and not to do much damage to buildings or infrastructure.
Then when pics of Mariupol got out that was forgotten.
The truth is it’s all out war WWII style. The Russians are not surgeons with scalpels; they are butchers with meat cleavers.

Situation on the Severodonetsk-Lysychansk direction as of 14:00 June 27, 2022 by @rybar
Allied forces of the Russian Armed Forces, the NM of the LNR and DNR, as well as volunteer formations are developing an offensive to encircle the enemy's Severodonetsk-Lysychansk grouping.
?? Units of the 25th Army Division of the AFU attempted a counterattack on Volcheyarovka to prevent the encirclement ring from closing north of the village. The attack was repulsed: fighting continues in Maloryazantsevo to the north of Volcheyarovka.
??Assault units of the Russian Armed Forces, supported by army aviation, broke through the AFU defenses west of Volcheyarovka and occupied part of the territory of the Lisichansk refinery. Fighting is going on in the western part of the refinery and the village of Verkhnekamenka with units of the 25th OvdbR, 24th Ombra and the 17th detachment of the AFU.
The fighting in Maloryazantsevo and at the oil refinery actually means narrowing of the encirclement ring around the Severodonetsk-Lysychansk grouping. It is now possible to leave the outlined cauldron by the only remaining road along the bank of the Seversky Donets through Belogorovka, which is under the fire control of the Russian Armed Forces.
?? In Lysychansk, there is fighting on the southern outskirts near the RTI plant, Bila Gora and the glass factory.
?? On the eastern bank, the mopping-up of Borovskoye and Severodonetsk continues. Several hundred civilians were evacuated from the shelters of the Azot plant.

Baykar Makina will give Ukraine three Bayarktar TB2 drones for free, for which Ukrainians raised $20,000,000 in three days
Last week, Serhiy Prytula announced the launch of the People's Bayraktar project, which aimed to raise UAH 500 million ($17 million) in a week. Blogger Igor Lachen helped in this.
Ordinary Ukrainians and business representatives collected UAH 600 million ($20 million) in just three days. Baykar Makina found out about the fundraising for unmanned aerial vehicles and refused to accept payment for strike drones.

8 years of lies from Russian media has brainwashed some my Russian friend as well. I hope you get some mental help.
What are you writing about?
I live here and see everything with my own eyes, and you are talking about some kind of media.
We have an old joke in Russia.
The husband caught the unfaithful wife with her lover.
His wife says to him, do you trust the comm more, your shameless eyes or me an honest woman?
So, I do not need the media to understand what is happening around me with my friends, relatives, etc.

Meanwhile, in China...

The demotion of Le Yucheng, China's first vice foreign minister, has sent shock waves through national political circles.
quote:
That meant the pro-Russian diplomat was no longer frontrunner in the race to become foreign minister.
quote:
His dismissal indicates that China intends to take its diplomacy in a new direction. One Chinese source noted that it was noteworthy that President Xi Jinping has allowed the benching of a figure who held the key to his relationship with Putin and diplomacy toward Russia.
quote:
Le's pro-Russia stance seemed to fit China's recent "wolf warrior diplomacy," which doesn't hesitate to confront the West. But like it or not, the reality for China is that its top diplomatic relationship is with the U.S.
quote:
One concrete takeaway from this development is that in the run-up to the party's national congress, the No. 1 priority in foreign policy is to rebuild Chinese diplomacy with the U.S.

There is probably a lot of different things going on with this, but this development doesn't make this conclusion concrete IMO.

Since no one is seriously worried about Russia invading a NATO country, and even if they did it’s obvious that it wouldn’t take 300K troops to stop it, the deployment of this expense can mean only one of two things…
A) NATO is planning to enter the fight in Ukraine(not likely)
Or
B) NATO is attempting to put Putin into a corner where he has no other choice but to expand the war or even fire nukes. I’m assuming that NATO has intel or is at least gambling that Putin would be deposed or killed if he tried to do such a thing.

I am also aware that Ukraine has tried to pursue airstrikes and missile strikes inside of Russia but the Biden Admin has explicitly told them they are forbidden to do so if they want to use US weapons. You can't win a war when you have foreign governments calling your shots.

As I recall, the US instructed that Ukraine cannot strike within Russia using weapons provided by America. That would be a substantively different condition.
