I’m surprised UA hasn’t done more counter insurgency raids into Russia. I realize they are light on assets, but it could pull some heat from other areas .

This has been 3 months of high intensity combat combining the worst features of both world wars along with some new features no one has encountered before. I suspect most everyone who has survived to this point is psychologically shattered and not capable of much more than grimly hanging on. The winner will be the side that gets enough fresh troops into the fight, along with adequate training and equipment. It may be that neither is capable of this and it turns into a grinding bloody stalemate. In that case it's a matter of whether the Euro-American coalition holds together long enough for Putin to die of whatever ails him or accidentally fall out a window.

Hey hey look at that Lima we kind of, sort of, agree on something.

The only goal at this point of Russia appears to be the complete destruction of a western leaning democracy on the boarder of Russia. NATO on its doorstep is not the threat to the current Russia government. Ordinary Russian’s seeing their cousins engaging in a free and functioning civil society is the threat to the Russian government.

Don't know how true this is but interesting if it was indeed the Ukrainian plan. Don't fully believe it but an interesting take
quote:
According to the Arestovich:
Ukrainian Armed Forces dragged Russians into a trap in Severodonetsk, pretending to "surrender" the city. Now they counterassault and began to cut the Russian forces in urban battles.

quote:
And as we know in the urban environment technological and technical superiority don't play big role, now infantry VS infantry. Russian command send every reserve to hold the city.
Glory to Ukraine - Death of Nazi Russia.
I wish you guys victory.

quote:
Arestovich:
Several streets of Severodonetsk have already been recaptured.
This counterattack does not mean that we will liberate the city.
First of all, the Russians suffer heavy losses.
3/

We hit when the concentration of Russians in the city was very high and they preparing for assault and they aren't ready for defence.
In the next days we will see what is the plan of the Ukrainian General Staff, but for now russians are in very heavy situation.

That was my point all along (more so than toothless nato)… Ukraine becoming a more western style democracy is a threat to those in power in Russia… way more than any military alliance.

This stupid invasion of Ukraine is literally gutting Russia, and you think quick progress doesn't matter.
Russia will have its border secured, geopolitical gains, and the economy will go back to normal/the world will go back to being scared of trump and China and forget everything within two months
This aged well.

Would explain how we went from Severondetsk was going to be a total blood bath for Russia to Ukrainian retreat relatively quickly. Hope it’s true, but we’ll see.

In the end I think the most compelling evidence the Russian economy is in real pain is Putin raising everyone’s pension by 10% on May 25. Unelected despots in the year 22 of their rule don’t do things like that when the people are fat and happy.
Russian inflation hit 17.8% in April. And their central bank expects inflation to run somewhere between 18% and 23% for the year. They pretty much have to increase pensions. Russians support the war now, citizens always do, at first. That support won't hold up with 20% inflation, continuing casualties, and no clear victory. Russia may be able to focus their forces in a small area with short supply lines and make costly gains. But there is no way that an army of that size will take and hold a country almost the size of Texas. The best that they can hope for is to push slightly further and then dig in and declare victory. And hope like hell that they can reach a negotiated settlement. If Ukraine has the will they can bleed the Russians until Putin dies or the Russian population has had enough.

No way that’s true. That would be the most retarded thing done in this whole retarded war.

I’ve always used it in the positive tense “until the vanquished considers…” but it’s always been one of my favorites.

1/2 Russia’s assault into northern Ukraine ended in a costly failure. Russia failed to implement its own principles of war. With the limited combat readiness of many units, it spread its forces too thinly without enough support from artillery and combat aircraft.
2/2 Above all, it was based on wildly optimistic assessments about the welcome Russian troops would receive in Ukraine. Russia has now adopted a “strategy of attrition” and is achieving slow and costly gains in the Donbas
