Yahoo...Russian Diplomat in Geneva quits. "Never have I been so ashamed"
The resignation amounts to a rare — if not unprecedented — public admission of disgruntlement about Russia’s war in Ukraine among the Russian diplomatic corps. It comes at a time when Putin’s government has sought to crack down on dissent over the invasion and quell narratives that conflict with the Russian government's line about how the “special military operation” — as it’s officially known in Russia — is proceeding.
He railed against the growing “lies and unprofessionalism” at Russia's Foreign Ministry and took particular aim at Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“In 18 years, he (Lavrov) went from a professional and educated intellectual … to a person who constantly broadcasts conflicting statements and threatens the world with nuclear weapons!” he wrote. “Today, the (Russian) Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not about diplomacy. It is all about warmongering, lies and hatred.”
quote:
“For twenty years of my diplomatic career I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been so ashamed of my country as on Feb. 24 of this year,” he wrote, alluding to the date of Russia’s invasion.

“The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia, with a bold letter Z crossing out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous and free society in our country,"

“It is intolerable what my government is doing now,” Bondarev told the AP. “As a civil servant, I have to carry a share of responsibility for that. And I don’t want to do that.”

You’re not gonna believe this but the diplomatic corps of Russia have English translators, and I’ve met a few Russians in my time that could speak the language with a fluency that some of my Cajun family can’t
Right. But that wasn't the point.
Putin speaks fluent English. I think pretty much every Russian doing business with Europe speaks at least enough English to be functional.
My question was more about the why of this letter was released for public consumption. Because surely the person resigning doesn't normally send correspondence to other Russians in English?
Is this a Russian diplomat using western media to communicate with the western public? With other Russians with access to western media? If this is is an authentic translation then what were the goals of the diplomat?

It's meant for public consumption. English is the prevaling language of it's intended audience.
What are you? STUPID?

I still don’t understand why Russia has made 0 effort to conceal what their objective is. Yes Ukraine has access to drones and NATO satellites and other intelligence means, but Russia has not tried any misdirection at all. The Ukrainians have had more than enough time to supply Severodonetsk for a siege.

You need to understand. It’s another feint. The real Russian attack is coming. Hold tight.

I thought everyone was going to give Ukraine anti-ship missiles. That would certainly back Russian ships off the coast.
It’s not that simple. The UK wanted to give the Ukrainians harpoon missiles, but it doesn’t have any land based harpoons. Plus anti-ship missiles can only push the blockade out from the coast and possibly out of Ukrainian waters. However, this is not the American civil war in the 1860s where ships can sneak past the blocking ships at night and then they are home free. Russia could still use its Black Sea Fleet to stop and seize or turn ships away from Ukraine. Since Ukraine has no navy to protect its shipping in the international waters of the Black Sea, it’s going to take a commitment from the other Black Sea nations especially Turkey to protect ships carrying Ukrainian grain.

Oh yes, how could I be so dense as to forget about the greatest misdirection move in history.

I’ve seen five or six videos like this so far. It’s usually a territorial defense unit, in one case it was a platoon, in another, a company.
The complaints are consistent, lack of training, lack of proper equipment, lack of air and artillery support. Not enough armor. Heavy casualties.

If their performance is any indication, they're probably too incompetent to pull off such deception. They've largely struggled to coordinate what they're broadcasting.
