The Krewe says NOPD was unable to staff the whole route, but NOPD says staffing for the parade is not mandatory and staffed by officers looking to earn extra money through the paid detail.

This is the exact same thing that happened to Krewe of Boo.

Clearly there are multiple classes of parades / parade permits. I'm not sure how all that works but obviously there is a difference.

Because all the "normal" parades already had their routes cut weeks ago and police staffing was the reason.

If there is not going to be any assigned staffing for these parades like Boo and Chewbacchus, and only detail opportunities, then the city needs to do these parades a solid and make the cutoff time to accept a detail much earlier, like a week or two in advance (depending on how much advance notice officers get about their regular schedule).

I feel really bad for this business owner. If they were open lunch hours I'd go have lunch there today, or if they were open on Sunday, I'd go there then. Just have too much going on tonight or sat night to have dinner there.

What sucks is that Chewbacchus is actually entertaining.

The problem in New Orleans is that politics is all machine, whether it is DAWN or BOLD or whomever. The last time an outsider to the program won it was Ray Nagin who overall was not bad especially in the lead up to Katrina. He ran the city better than it had been run since Vic Schiro in the late 60's

Hate to hear this, but the owner shouldn’t be surprised in the least after how Teedy handled Covid that private sector business isn’t even a remote consideration with policy/parade changes.

I get the desire to be in Marigny/Bywayer for nostalgia sake, but the restaurant has good reviews. Move to somewhere on the Gulf Coast. His business would thrive in Mandeville, Bay St Louis, Ocean Springs, Fairhope, etc.

are they bringing in police from neighboring parishes for the big parades? If they don't have enough for Chewbacchus how the hell are they going to manage Endymion

Yeah but Orleans doesn’t like to pay it’s bills so…

Why do you think you haven’t seen troopers on I10 in the East anymore?

LSP used to work OT traffic enforcement out in the east from 610 to Michaud but Orleans Parish DA didn’t pay their bill so now we get people shot on I10 every month Bc there’s no police out there.

If I recall, only 25% of eligible voters voted in last election.

Which means 75% of the voters voted for it by just standing put and letting the 25% vote status quo as had been predicted for the months leading up to the election

Then there is Jazz Fest. A bunch of pasty white tourists just ripe for the picking stumbling around bad neighborhoods half in the bag looking for their Air BnB.

On the radio the other day they were saying how critically low staffed the police department is and it’s predicted to go lower.

As long as I can remember, there hasn't been an issue with tourist coming in for jazzfest.

I guess with the new normal with the criminals feeling untouchable, that might really be a concern now.

OK. I kind of thought it was the LSP's job to patrol and police interstates though.
I don't doubt they don't want to full around with patrolling I-10 in the East just for having to deal with so many dumbasses.

By this logic, you voted for Joe Biden and shouldn't get to bitch.

(...sort of disingenuous since this person almost certainly did vote for Jason Williams and Teedy).

FYI...Arabella is a good little restaurant, for real.
