I don't think the Louisiana legislature should get involved in a local park.

I agree with you, but BREC is a state-created agency. So the state technically is involved.

It's insane. This type of crap is a big part of the problem with LA governance. No way should BREC be something that's created by the state.

Some of my family just took their kids to the zoo, and found it less than desirable. Many exhibits had no animals, and its as if BREC letting the current zoo slide to reinforce their efforts to build a new one. They were disappointed in the product they found.

This is how things get done. They let it slide. People complain, then they produce studies that say it's gonna cost 100 million (or whatever) to fix it, or they can build a new one for 75 million (or whatever) or because it's SO UNSAFE they could just close it.

They know how the system works, and we the people are dumb enough to allow it.

“I’ve attended many of the sessions with the dog and pony show, if you will, and BREC never allows the public really to have the input, and people who oppose this move are shut down,” Carpenter says. “I’ve been shut down, too, and I just thought it was a bit disgusting so I decided enough was enough. I might go down, but not without a fight.”

I think the Zoo is stupid (and their crappy golf). But, this is insane and scary stuff. It is hard to believe lawmakers believe in this kind of government.

How much is the BR Zoo?

Were lucky here in stl, Enterprising leasing guy and others have donated and had written into law, that the Zoo can never charge an entrance fee. They can only charge for parking, special areas, etc.(there is free parking on the street).

They have proven to me that they can't be trusted to care for what they had, and now they want a new one???

No way would I support this.

That's exactly what BREC will do.

I know many people that work there, and they all say it's as corrupt and wasteful as you can imagine.

Anybody who ever votes to give them one more dime in any of the never ending elections they ask for money in, is a fool.

I dont think this is true to an extent

Now yea dont do any upgrades in the past 2 to 3 years because it would be a waste in the longrun, but I dont think they intentionally did this

I am not a zoo proponent. They have let it go to crap with the intention of moving it. But, I have never felt unsafe going there and I have been many times. Unless you mean you do not like driving 15 or 25 minutes. But, no matter where you move it, people will be at a disadvantage in driving times.

They get several thousand from me every year just by having those coin funnel things that my kids beg me to give them change for.

I'd like to see them move it to the Cortana Mall location.

But if they don't move it, the City/Parish needs to really invest in that area's streets, lighting, aesthetics, and signage. Maybe they can move the Zoo entrance to highway 19.

I wonder how much money they have spent over the last two decades maintaining the zoo, providing upgrades, and replacing animals, etc.

That would tell us all we need to know.

It's pretty amazing that the state legislature can be so useless and yet still find time to meddle in things that don't concern them.

$8ish isn't bad, i've paid $20+ for other zoo's around the Country, and they were mediocre, compared to our zoo, which is free.

They need to move the zoo to Ascension or Livingston where the animals will be safe

To me the issue is there is nothing else around there to eat or do.

IF they decided to leave it where it is & bring in restaurants I don't think it would change anything.
It's one thing to go the zoo & leave, it's another to sit down at a restaurant in that area.
