Now a second legislator weighs in with another bill.

This isn't good for EBR.

Exactly...what do north br residents think they are losing if the zoo moves?i am neither for or against, btw.

I'm only against the move b/c the $$ involved in moving it versus improving/expanding current zoo.

I will continue to use the zoo 2-3 times a year with the kids whether its in NBR or near AP line.

Comes down to wasting money on a move in my opinion, when that money could be invested in the current location.

I don't think a new location will attract more visitors as much as a HUGE improvement effort would.

The bill would give the Louisiana Legislature appointment power over three seats on the nine-member board.

So what, some representative from Bunkie is going to have a seat on the BREC board?

The bill gives appointment power over the three legislative seats only to lawmakers from north Baton Rouge, two of whom are herself and Carpenter.

Oh, I see what you did there.

Zachary zipcode is the highest users of the zoo. So it is not NBR supporting the zoo, but close by communities like Zachary, Central, St Francisville. That is why Zachary and Central are not for the move. They pay the same BREC taxes and barely get anything out of it, hence why they feel moving the zoo is a slap in the face. Just need to spend a third the money and make it nicer.

I strongly disagree.

The Santa Maria was Columbus' flagship. The Pinta is the one no one cares about!!!

You'd think they cared more about Ascension folks than Zachary and central folks. I can see why they would think its a slap in the face.

The COA can do what they are doing and no one shuts them down if I am correct? You can almost here crickets chirp in the state house about this issue.

The state feels that Brec moving the zoo would hurt the people who do not use. It seems like they need to file a bill ASAP to stop this?

Can someone please explain these state representatives ethics as the EBRPCOA seems to have done things that possibly could be illegal?

Brec does something which is against a group of people which is not illegal and wow send in the calvary.

Did I miss something in college when I took ethics?

Let's make a deal. Keep the zoo up there and move the airport.

One issue I see is that who knows how that area will be in 30 years. When the zoo was originally built North BR was booming.

This video from North BR facebook is horrible.

https://www.facebook.com/NBRNow/videos/763523550518917/

So they go around the zoo and film random shite and make the case that BREC is abandoning the zoo.

A piece of trash on the ground is filmed so obviously they have trash everywhere (they probably planted it). Or maybe one of our gracious north BR residents left it. When I worked there, I saw a black lady change her kids diaper and throw the dirty diaper in the animal enclosure. And this was with a garbage can less than 20 feet away.

They have shots of animal enclosures being 'unkept'. Its basically pics of foliage and other plants that have died. Newsflash, we just had 2 separate incidents of snow.

Leaves in a drainage canal area...unkept!

They filmed a crack in some cement on a drainage area and said cracked cement.

Drink areas for animals....exposed piping

There are too many to list. The video is sad and I now hope they move the zoo at all costs

That is a profoundly pathetic attempt to make the zoo look bad! Yea, that is why I don't go to the zoo . . . they still have Christmas decorations up in February! The horror!

Who exactly gave that commission a blue ribbon anyway?

This is exactly the problem. Everything in BR is about race these days. The current administration feeds on shite like this. If you support the St. George incorporation effort, then you’re a racist. Now, they’ll say the same of anyone who supports moving the zoo. Christ on a cracker! When will it end??

All this is going to do is cause BR to not have a zoo. Don't they get this? I've been a season pass holder, but no longer...until it moves to a better locale.

I wonder what they’ll do to the old zoo property after they remove all the animals.

What about the state fair? Where will they hold that?

I’m not necessarily against moving the zoo, I just wonder about those two things.

Why does BR even need a zoo when there's a world class zoo an hour away! BR would be better served if a top notch children's discovery center was built.
