don't give them any ideas.

They want to move the zoo to a location where they would get more business so they intend to build it next to Ascension Parish.

Just think, on the 4th of July you could load up the kids head to the zoo, and on the way out swing by the fireworks stand and load up.

They wanted a visible location closer to the main freeways, and I don't think they could find any. That park on Airline is the next best.

I read that they were considering I-12 and O'Neal. Glad they aren't building it there.

Maybe the area on Nicholson across from Magnolia Mound could be repurposed. That would be cool. Nice tree canopy there and close to LSU and downtown.

She also has the support of all the white folk in Santa Maria and ccl and other neighborhoods that will be impacted by the move.

The big part I struggle with is if they had kept up with this zoo and intended to invest the kind of money a new zoo would costs then would people use the current zoo?

I go to the zoo maybe twice a year and the only thing keeping me from going more is the location. I live in South BR and it takes a 20 minute drive with no traffic to make it there. Plus there are no restaurants in the area where we can make an entire day out of it.

You wouldn't hear any complaints from me if the zoo was thriving because the NBR and Baker residents supported it. But they obviously don't wanna support it, but they also don't wanna lose it. The zoo asks your zip code when you buy a ticket at the window. they obviously have the data they need to push a move.

If the zoo was moved closer to South BR today, I'd buy a season pass tomorrow. And I know I wouldn't be the only one. I'll just be happy with my Knock Knock museum membership.

I don't think that is fair. Who wants to go to a zoo that is being intentionally ran into the ground? NBR people don't like crappy products no more than SBR people.

I dont think it would be a drastic increase. The zoo to residents in South BR is basically on the other end of the earth. The neighboring area is a shite hole with nothing as much as a decent place to get food to and from the visit to the zoo.

What it comes down to me are the visitors. If you spend 100 million on renovating the existing zoo, its still in the middle of a shite hole. The local residents still arent going to go and you arent going to get a big increase in the South BR residents, even though theyre the majority anyway. So you just wasted 100 million

Spend more money, move the zoo to a more desirable location, and start from scratch. The 5% of those old visitors may or may not come, but the 95% group will get much bigger. Tell the mayor, this woman, Gravy and everyone else to frick off. They never gave 2 shits about the zoo until this was talked about.

I worked at the zoo 10 years ago. They werent intentionally running it into the ground then and the locals still didnt go.

If it werent for the occasional field trips, that 5% might be 3% or lower.

I am not a zoo proponent. They have let it go to crap with the intention of moving it. But, I have never felt unsafe going there and I have been many times. Unless you mean you do not like driving 15 or 25 minutes. But, no matter where you move it, people will be at a disadvantage in driving times

A little bit of both I guess. It's kind of in the hood and out of the way for the majority of the people that visit.

this is the part of the issue that people like Gary Chambers refuse to admit

and, when things DO improve, they get mad at the increased values/prices ("gentrification")

it's an absolute lose-lose because they want the impossible (nice things in terrible areas at low prices)

The distance from I-10 to the Fairgrounds is about the same as the distance from I-110 to the current zoo.

It's about 2.8 miles to each facility.

They don’t have to face the facts of math and economics. I don’t think is is a refusal. It is an ignorance.

A good example of this recently is the Knock Knock (Children’s) Museum. Privately funded. Great Museum. On the boarder of a terrible neighborhood.

They offer discounted prices to those who can verify government assistance (food stamps, wic, etc.) but they were told that’s embarrassing, and the discount isn’t enough.
