The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center announced Thursday that the La Niña weather pattern, which lasted three years and produced conditions favorable to the formation of hurricanes, has finally come to an end. La Niña can help hurricanes form because it results in less wind shear in the Atlantic. Wind shear can help break apart storms instead of allowing them to strengthen.

La Niña usually lasts for only a year or two before transitioning into El Niño, which is less favorable to hurricane formation. However, La Niña conditions have persisted since around August 2020, with a couple months of neutral conditions in early summer of 2021. Climatologists count it as three years old because it lasted for three winters.

1992 Calls BS on this statement. While there were fewer storms in 1992, South Florida and Louisiana will remember Andrew.

This is where I post meaningless bullshite in a weather-related thread and everyone thinks I’m trying to act like an expert.

Unfortunately, that doesn't look to be the case:

You see the drought is "over" west of Texas, and that could and likely will play into severe weather season. Also, the Gulf is pretty warm for early Spring, and there probably aren't any fronts left to come through and clear it out. The ENSO will be more neutral for the next few months, and that also has an impact on severe season.

You made it crystal clear you weren't an expert when you didn't know how to tell if your faucet was frozen.

did you know Chris Farley was originally signed on to do the voice acting for Shrek and have even recorded a significant part of the movie?

Also when Myers took over Shrek, he recorded the whole voice track in a midwestern accent and then at the last minute decided he wanted to do a Scottish brogue and as a result large portions of the movie had to be reanimated at a huge expense.

I’ll see myself to the movie and tv board now.

Im in the drought remains but improves. I'm sick of only getting a 1/10 of an inch of rain every 5 weeks. Sick of this drought.

La Niña also contributes to the hot as frick winters we’ve had for the last three years IIRC. Maybe we’ll get actual seasonable weather for more than three weeks this fall

CoviD lockdowns didn’t let El Niño back into the Pacific until now.
