CHICAGO (WLS) -- Closing arguments began Wednesday morning in the trial of actor Jussie Smollett.
Special prosecutor Dan Webb wove together seven days of testimony and evidence, including statements from Chicago police officers, the Osundairo brothers and Smollett.
He told the jury Smollett is not credible and said he was "tailoring his testimony."
He broke down places where, Webb argues, Smollett changed his story and his reluctance to participate in the CPD investigation.
Webb even went so far as to call part of Smollett's story "ridiculous," asking why was Smollett at the intersection at 2 a.m.? He told the jury he went to get eggs because Bola Osundairo told him to eat more eggs. But the drug store Smollett said he went to was closed.
"In January 2019, Mr. Smollett developed this plan to create a fake hate crime, then reported it as a real crime to the Chicago Police Department," Webb said. "Mr. Smollett didn't want the crime solved. ... He told the brothers he wanted the media attention."
In court Tuesday, Smollett finished testifying on his own behalf before both sides rested.

But Smollett’s defense attorney asserted the prosecution’s case is based on the testimony of liars, calling the Osundairo brothers “the worst type of criminals.”
“The entire prosecution case including the foundation of their case is built like a house of cards, and we all know what happens to a house of cards when you apply a little pressure: it crumbles,” defense attorney Nenye Uche said.
Uche said the Osundairo brothers accusing Smollett of staging a hoax was simply a “blame the victim scam.”
“It’s better than the Nigerian prince scam,” Uche said. “Don’t fall for it.”
how bout this:
quote:
Nenye Uche was hired as Smollett’s lead defense attorney earlier this year, but Special Prosecutor Dan Webb objected, saying he had spoken with the Osundairo brothers before, and therefore, had a conflict of interest.

A former Cook County prosecutor will be allowed to represent former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.
But Nenye Uche can’t question Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, the brothers who would be key witnesses for the prosecution if the criminal case goes to trial, a judge ruled Friday.

I honestly think he should just be forced to cover costs of the police investigation into the hoax. Hes been tarred and feathered enough that prison isnt necessary.
Now the DA that tried to sweep this whole thing under the rug? That kind of abuse of power CANNOT be allowed. That witch should be in jail, or under it.

Justice for Jussie! All the man wants to do is mutually masturbate with Nigerians in bath houses. Let him do that in peace.

During the final statements the defense and prosecution did not hold back in making their cases regarding their assumptions to Smollett’s alleged involvement in what prosecutors believe was a hate crime hoax.
Smollett’s defense attorney Nenye Uche ended his oration by wishing upon a jury which he told holds “the power to determine if the prosecution made its case.” “I thought I’d end with a Christmas wish list,” Uche said as he showed on the screen his laundry list of questions he wished he had answered.
Do you want Mr. Smollett to be convicted of this nonsense?
Do you want to take away man’s freedom?
Who was the man in the car?
Where are the phone records from Ola’s other two phones?
Why did the brothers lie about having their phones?
Who is this third person?
Why doesn’t the report show the SD card was overwritten?
Why did they pressure and threaten Anthony Moore to change his story if the case is solid?
Why are they telling him to say he saw a black person when he said he saw the same thing Jussie saw?
After relaying his list of unanswered questions he felt the prosecution failed to answer, Uche told the “If you believe like I do Smollett is innocent and not guilty stand up. We’re willing to wait.
He added, “The only principle in this courtroom is the presumption of innocence. I ask you, please be strong, this is not an easy case.”
YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS shite UP!!!!!!!!!!

Eh. They lived together for long periods of time, but that wasn't usual for single actors/actresses back then.

The scarcity of black jurors might be attributed to the scarcity of black citizens who embrace homosexuality and the other letters as building community structure.
The Black women I knew in NOLA (from talking to them in the fabric stores) had a real deep dislike of a lot of black men who (their words) either loved themselves too much or loved other men too much, and it was hard for their daughters to find good men to marry.
I'd expect that to have been in the minds of Jussie's lawyers and for a certain percentage of black women jurors to be home runs for the prosecution.
