re: Jim Cornette’s Horror Stories from Mid South

Saw it at the St. Bernard Civic Center. It was great! Later on I thought nobody would ever beat Nikolai Volkov.. I was worried.. until JYD beat him one day in about 30 seconds and I could breathe a sigh of relief.

If you ever get to watch the show on Andy Kaufman vs Jerry Lawler in Memphis you should. Incredibly funny. Andy knew how to be a heel and piss off the fans. Even faked out some real wrestlers.

I’m to young to have been there, but everything he said regarding lake Charles behavior literally checks out.

We loved this shite as kids so we talked our parents into getting us tickets and a ride to the Monroe Civic Center.

In the middle of a match some random drunk redneck came running out of the crowd and went after Skandor Akbar, they tangled up for a few seconds and the guy pulled Skandor's Hijab off.

He just couldn't take any more of that Iranian son of a bitch

The police had the guy handcuffed outside when we left



Funny thing is Skandor was born in Wichita Falls Texas

I remember meeting Skandar Akhbar around 1985 or so. He was a good ole baw from Texas and Ted DiBiase who couldn't have been a nicer guy with Terry Taylor at Frankie and Johnny's in uptown. They were laughing it up with some of the folks at the bar.

Had a long-time employee that wrestled this circuit (Houma, South Louisiana, etc) under the name of Nick Bondage.

Hard to imagine him with that persona. He was friendly, outgoing, soft-hearted,

Alas, he drank himself to death. Sad story.

Have told this story a couple of times on here. My mom worked at the old Canal Station in Krotz Springs right off of Hwy 190 it was a travel hub between Lake Charles, Alexandria, Lafayette and Baton Rouge a lot of wrestlers stopped to get gas and get food. I saw Jim Cornette, the Rockin roll express, Ted Debose, Terry Taylor, Jake the Snake, the Samoans, Kamala and a few others while I was helping her at the station. She had several others Autographs of JYD and others. They all rode together in groups as they traveled to the events. It was surreal as a kid seeing enemies in the ring and them all coming into the station together shooting the shite and talking like regular folks. I lost those autographs but I still remember them vividly. Loved Mid South wrestling on Sundays in the 1980’s.

After one of the shows we stopped at a old school drive in Hammond and saw Skandor Abbar and Enie Ladd and the Samoans all riding in the same Cadillac when they stopped there. It was funny because it was at the height of a feud they were having. Ernie Ladd had been the Samoans manager and Akbar stole them from Ladd and had the Samoans attack him. Can't remember who but it ended where in one of the big superdome shows the Samoans tagteamed against Ladd and one of the good guys.
