Every man, woman and child in our country parish, other than my family, believed it 100%. I had kids and even a grown man scream at me for saying it was fake.
You’d definitely catch some heat at my rural/redneck K-9 school for saying wrasslin was fake.

Cornette is a great story teller. Love his podcast.
Hard to believe he is such a crazy frick.
ETA, JMO Cornette is the best evil manager of all time. His mic work is beyond reproach.

Certified Cool Story Bro.
Something about late 70s/early 80s wrasslin is very prime for stories.

quote:Absolute Legend. He body slammed Andre the Giant before Hulk Hogan did, on an episode of Mid-South wrestling. Despite the introduction of being from "parts unknown", he was from Coldwater, Mississippi, and his real name was James Harris.
I got a Kamala the Ugandan giant autograph for my birthday this year

A bunch of guys slammed Andre before Hogan became the "first man to ever slam Andre". That never could have happened with the internet, of course, but back in those days Vince could re-run about anything he wanted and call it historic.

Those guys were on the road for like 340 days a year and most of it was in a shitty vehicle of some kind on country backroads. They weren't making much money, at least not enough to always stay in hotels and such, so they came into contact with a lot of locals. In the territory days they truly were like traveling carnival workers. They figured out the places they could hit up where they could maybe get some peace without it costing them a chunk of their pay. That just built better connections to the communities they visited every few weeks. Because their travel wasn't sanitized and structured — basically just get to the next town however the hell you can — like today it gave people a whole lot more access. Cool times, even if they were tough times.

The Wild Samoans were in Cowboys in Bossier City one night. Somebody asked one of them “are you Afa or Sika?”. He said “which one do you want me to be?”.

Grizzly Smith is Jake the Snakes father.
Jake the Snakes mother was 12 years old when she gave birth to Jake.
How was that POS allowed to live long enough to die of natural causes?

Hell, Vader almost caused an international incident when some Kuwati talk show host asked if it is fake.
Vader roughed the dude up and got arrested.

Heard a story about some guys who decided to show up one night as the Ernie Ladd fan club. They antagonized the audience so bad he invited them to hang out in the dressing room until the crowd dispersed.

I don’t really understand what would make everyone so enraged.

Grew up in New Orleans East in the 70s and would regularly see Junk Yard Dog driving in the neighborhood in a maroon colored Cadillac.
My friends and I hoped he would stop one day to get to talk to him.

quote:And poor Jake was abused by his stepmom too. His sister Robin who also wrestled told the stories as did Jake many times. Jake wanted to be an architect, but he left school and wanted to be a wrestler like Grizzly just so he would be proud of him. After all of that, Grizzly would tell him he never would amount to anything. Some people don't need to be around let alone being parents. I just don't get it. I'm pretty sure Jake would recollect and express his storytelling in interviews and in the ring, which made him a unique talent. He also self medicated to a point where he was in very bad shape. God and DDP helped him through and got him back on his feet, so it ended up being a whale of a human story. He's also back with his wife Cheryl.

My dad’s youngest brother was definitely in some of those crowds at the East Park Recreation Center in Houma. He eventually got banned from the venue for life when he jumped in the ring to help JYD when he was getting double teamed by Bob Roop and Mr. Wrestling II.

The show,” Dark Side of the Ring” on Vice and episodes on YouTube are pretty interesting.
Tales from the Territories as well. There's an episode all about Mid-South.

He raped the daughter of the woman he was dating. Grizzly was a well-known pedo in the industry but nobody seemed to care. A lot of guys hooked up with teenage girls on the road. I know a woman who lost her virginity to Jerry Lawler in Memphis when she was 15 and he was in his 30s.

I’m old, and a dude, so birthdays are not really a big deal, but I had a conversation with my GF about 2 things that I would go ape shite over.
1. An Ed Orgeron bday cameo
2. A Kamala the Ugandan giant autograph.
She thinks I’m a moron but got both. I think it’s pretty awesome. Besides, if I ever really want something, I just go get it. These are things I probably wouldn’t get for myself.
