Late for the Sky. A powerful relationship song.

“ You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be.”

JBs best friend is Susan Cowsill who lives and performs in New Orleans. She’s of the Cowsills family and musical group who’s famous hit was “Hair” among others.

For those who mock those that know who Jackson brown is I’ll ask you if you are educated at all?

There are certain things one picks up in culture, reading, learning. Do you know Beethovens Moonlight Sonata? Ever heard of Harry Truman or Roberto Clemente? How about Socrates or is all of that a boomer thing also?

30 yrs ago, in the mid 90s, i think Jackson Browne had cleaned up his act.. he was probably doing drugs like 50 or 55 yrs ago.

But im old enough to remember in the early 90s (i think ?) when he dated this actress named Daryl Hannah and it was all over the news that he beat her silly, and i think he might have served time for the abuse , can’t remember .

Saw him at the Saenger last year; puts on a great show. His voice is still plenty strong and fine for his age.

Yep.
Then he ends it with this.

“Don’t confront me with my failures; I had not forgotten them“. One of my favorite lines of any song.

A brilliant song, but I like Gregg's version of it better than Jackson's. I think Gregg changed the line to:

“Don’t confront me with my failures; I'm aware of them.“

In any case, this is very sad. The man has endured his share of tragedies.

I’m sure Jackson dabbled in some drugs, but he never really struggled.

Fentanyl will be old enough to retire at 67 years old next year.

My favorite is “Here Come Those Tears Again.”

I remember him being accused of domestic abuse with Darryl Hannah and her running to JFK Jr. I don’t think it was ever proven, though.

Nah. “Into music”? Sure. But “just like music”? No. I like music. I listen to all kinds of music, but most of the time I don’t know the singer or songwriter. That’s just not something I’m interested in.

No. It’s actually his. But I do love her version. It sounds even darker.

Gregg Allman did a great version of it on his first solo record also.

The duet when Gregg and Jackson did it live together was great, one of my favs.

Well, there's consensus that was a bullshite hoax/mental health break by Hannah.

I thought i was the only person who even remembered that shite .

It reminds me, i have a friend who’s working on a tv show right now.. she was telling me that the show stars the son of Richard Gere and the daughter of Cindy Crawford.. i dont know the name of the show, but i was like ‘that’s weird, i can remember when Gere and Cindy Crawford were married’.. my friend’s only a little younger than me but she didnt know that.. it’s like the world moves on from things that happened over 25 or 30 years ago .

Without question ? Come on man .

I am a Jackson Browne fan .. but i think that Fogelberg and Loggins and James Taylor and Paul Simon and even Billy Joel might have something to say about that.. and maybe a couple others im forgetting .. maybe i am mixing eras a little bit, but they were all big in the 70s & 80s..(Paul Simon in the 60s as well).. im not even saying you are wrong , im just saying that “without question” is way too strong a statement to make in re to Jackson Browne being ‘the greatest’ of that elite era , or of all time .
It's obviously all subjective, but yes, he's better than all those you listed - particularly Taylor, who, IMO, really misses the instrumentation mark.

Yeah, basically an urban legend. I think even her father has defended Browne.

Jackson Browne is without question the greatest of the American singer/songwriters (of that era)

Great, yes I agree. One of the top echelon, indeed. But silly, even considering the subjectivity of it, to say "the greatest".

Joni Mitchell, John Prine, Randy Newman, (the admittedly very inconsistent, and not a great singer in the traditional sense) Bob Dylan, Joni Michell (deserves another mention!), James Taylor, Carol King, Elton John, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Goodman (maybe had to be a Chicago guy, and seen him live to appreciate this - and died young from leukemia). Jim Croce also died young, who knows what else he would have given us?

edit: Add Gordon Lightfoot to that. The Edmund Fitzgerald, and lesser known, but fantastic songwriting "Canadian Railroad Trilogy"

But yes, JB is a great one.
