I’ve spent a few months in India (nice parts) and one thing strikes me

Everyone seems to hate the British and they blame their colonizers for their lack of progress. But in fact, their lack of progress is because the British left after WW2 (basically Hitler made Britain go broke and lose its empire).
But before then, Britain built their entire infrastructure including ports and rail networks, and unified Indian under a common language. That and the partition would have never happened.
But what have the British ever done for US?

Pretty on-brand for third worlders. Blame the British who haven’t been in your country since 1945 for the fact that you have open high voltage electrical on every street corner and 50 people get run over by trains daily. Anyone who’s ever spent time around Indian people knows exactly why they’re one of the worst, dirtiest countries on earth and it ain’t because of a bunch of 110 year old British guys

Ain’t nearly enough intriguing juice in visiting there worth my squeezing.
The vast majority of the Indians I’ve met in the rest of the world in my life so far do not make me wish to see millions of more folks like them.

At least for Britain, their overseas colonial empire, while providing some degree of benefit for them (access to resources and manpower they might not have had otherwise), it was a net loss/cost for them and a net gain/benefit for virtually every place they "colonized".
And they're hated for it...

It was a great boon to Britain, and they made fortunes. Eventually it became a net loss because the colonized people were resisting.
It was so lucrative that the Dutch were run out of there by the British. Napoleon strongly considered an overland assault from Egypt, and Russia fought with the British for a hundred years to gain the approaches to India in Central Asia.
