I don't know about that. Britain was extremely effective at extracting wealth, they evolved to use international corporations and puppet dictators to extract maximum wealth with lower risk (see what happened in Persia and BP). If you have something they want, they found a way to get it.

The US wasn't much better with their actions in Central America and the propping up of countless dictators to extract cheap luxury food items (bananas and coffee especially).

These actions by large empires have bred all of the "extremist regimes" in just about every hotbed in the world.

I’ve had Indian teams in the past and spent more time there than I would like. I’ve had several tell me that things would be better if the Brit’s hadn’t left.

Back in the day, our lab manager called me (a female professional at the company) to go and separate two women technicians who were close to having a physical fight.
One was from India, the other from west Africa.
The name calling, the claims that the other stank, and all sorts of things.

I got them to sit down, have a soft drink, and then I played the "Don't raise your voices, don't give the man a reason to fire you. A good paying job in a company in Houston with good air conditioning is worth keeping'. And 'nobody likes everybody, if they do they are stupid. We get along with some real shitty people because it's a learning experience. "

They hated each other for so many reasons and the men in our company didn't want to try to control the situation.
