Sounds like you’re not mad at the fact that she wasn’t on time, but that she cancelled all together.

Completely different things to be angry at. You’re DEFINITELY allowed to be fricking pissed at your lazy arse fiancés friend. frick her dumb arse… and I hope that the dinner was with a rich dude because this bitch is angling for a sugar daddy, not a job.

If it was just drinks with friends etc, cut her out of your life and persuade your fiancé to do the same.

You can only help people so far and it should ABSOLUTELY not precipitate a rant on a forum about it… she’s not worth your, our our time.

I’ve been in the same industry (advertising/marketing) since the Clinton administration. I haven’t noticed any difference in meeting punctuality. There are infinitely more meetings now and it’s a wonder productivity hasn’t nosedived. (thank you, zoom).

People dress a lot more casually, “slumming it” by 90s standards, and mainly since the pandemic.

People just can’t show up for work on time. It’s a big problem. I am always on time and don’t have a love affair with my work.

I've seen people wearing hoodies on zoom calls. I don't really care but I don't get it.

Well she cancels the day of because she made casual dinner plans with another friend instead. Totally bails, but says she'd like to still do a zoom meeting with the connection.

I bet you $2500 she did this via text message

That’s not a timeliness thing, that’s an a-hole thing.

It takes so little to stand out from the crowd now. Pathetically, just showing up for work on time (or at all) consistently is enough to make you an above-average worker these days.

Frigging nobody shows up to meeting on time at work anymore

Because most meetings are just invented by morons just trying to justify their existence. If everyone is doing their job there should be minimal meetings.

The person I fired this week showed up to the meeting late. It was annoyingly predictable but also kind of perfect since it eliminated the inkling of sympathy/guilt I typically feel in those meetings.

Punctuality almost gives you an edge these days. It's sad.

Hire ex military. It's beaten in their brain to be where they are supposed to be ten minutes before they're supposed to be there.

Her boss says she is a great employee otherwise so he doesnt want to get rid of her which I kind of understand, but when you are on salary and cant show up on time, something has to happen.

Why would being salaried affect timeliness in the slightest? If you're salaried then you're paid for your production, not your time.

I have some IN GENERAL comments which don't apply to OP's situation.

IN GENERAL, there is a two-way disrespect between employer and employee when it comes to time. My experience is that employers were the ones disrespecting employees' time first. Wasting it on stupid meetings, not rewarding efficient performance, even sacrificing high-performing workers who were insufficiently obsequious for the massive egos of the utterly mediocre useless middle managers under whom they suffered. Eventually you say frick it and throw it back at them. Unfortunately, this has had the consequence of neither side showing initial good faith to the other and just leading off with flagrant disrespect for each others' time and seeing if the other side will tolerate it or not.

~~

In OP's specific situation though? frick that bitch she's dumb as hell If you need a job then you shouldn't be blowing any opportunity off. I'm not saying be desperate and take the first thing you get, but you'll never know what your options are if you flake all the time... and that's ignoring the specific context where this is by far her best shot at an "in" to a narrow and specific field that she wants to do. That's just mind-numbing stupidity.

Fiancé’s friend is fos about the other friend dinner thing. That sounds like a cop out. A friend would be totally cool with her canceling if true, not that I believe it is. I wonder if she has anxiety or social awkwardness issues. Something weird like that made her bail last second…if she actually wanted the job

Totally agree. It is an everyday occurrence. I am also absolutely stunned at how incredibly unprofessional so many people are now with flat out not responding at all to voice mails and emails. Very rude and incredibly unprofessional.

Seems like you already needed a doctor, but now after threatening this one due to your own tardiness you need to find another one and perhaps need to pay bail.

Why the frick would an employee talk to their boss that way???

This was in regards to someone being late but still demanding to be seen by the doctor regardless of other patients waiting who showed up on time, so it’s really you feeling entitled to frick up every other patients’ day just because you don’t value punctuality.

Now we know why you are so accepting of employees being late, because that’s who you are with every one else you deal with. Worse you act like an internet tough guy when anyone prefers someone respectfully being on time over someone being a disrespectful twat.

quote:

frick a doctor and them putting their foot down, its a good way for the doc to find a foot up their arse..

Again you sound like a psychopath. How many doctors have fricked your significant other and made you watch?
