Being on time is a racist construct. The Smithsonian made everyone aware of this recently. You’re one of those white supremacists Joe Biden is warning us about.

Good on them to say to heck with it.

That is how she has to learn, the hard way. She is not hungry enough.

Friend is 25. Graduated from a prestigious law school. F'ed around and didn't get her bar app in time for August sitting. Well then she was in no man's land. Had come back home but gone to out of state law school. Connections minimal. So she got a glimpse of no job hell. Had lunch with her and told her how I made a similar mistake at her age and to this day, it was one of those forks in the road that affected my life .

Well, I got her a job but she had to make the effort to apply, interview, and all that. Nothing was guaranteed. Had to let that hunger develop first. She's doing great in it and they will probably give her a raise soon. Lesson learned.

You need them to do you a favor.

Either you suck it up to get the favor or nothing.

You don't have leverage & your guest knows that.

Has nothing to do with being on time.

it happens because management allows it to happen

start firing everyone not there on time and be sure to announce to the whole staff why they were fired.

do that and the shite stops immediately, so grow some balls and start firing people rather than bitching on internet about it.

Whenever I get invited to something or my fiancé and I know we want to do something, we plan it, get it on the calendar, then show up on time. A lot of times if we want to invite our friends, they'll never commit and will only decide last minute if they want to come or not.

Is this a generational thing, have people always been like this? I guess I just find myself infuriated that people can barely seem to do basic planning or show up on time for things.

For casual things yes. Text messaging and cell phones have allowed me and my peers the ability to change plans last minute and communicate the changes.

I just read the anecdote. That girl is a moron and is not emblematic of an entire generation.

A lower level employee at my company is religiously 15-20min at least 2-3 days a week. Im not her boss as she is not in my department, but her boss is my equal.
Her boss says she is a great employee otherwise so he doesnt want to get rid of her which I kind of understand, but when you are on salary and cant show up on time, something has to happen.

Her excuse is generally that traffic is bad where she comes from. Well to me its pretty simple… fricking leave 20 minutes earlier than you usually do.
Not my problem though, i find it funny.

Is he demanding she stay over to make up the lost time? If not, then he's a weak boss. Maybe if he demanded it, she'd get the message and change her behavior. People only do what they are allowed to get away with.

I hate when patients are late and expect, rather demand, to be seen. I put my foot down.

And I totally understand the flip side of the argument. Most doctors offices have ridiculous wait times. I pride myself on being timely and not making my patients wait. I would rather my patients less wait time and I try my hardest to accomplish this. My notes are second fiddle, I’ll do them later.

This past Saturday, we were hungry for sandwiches so we went to the Jersey Mike’s by my house, and the guy showed up 10 minutes after a supposed to open

Didn’t apologize or say good morning or anything, just open the door and said we could come in while he set things up

He wasn’t rude at all…. just rather stoic about not being on time to open up the restaurant shop. That’s what I found interesting.

Perhaps he was the person they called when the person that was scheduled to open didn't show.
In that case I would apologize for opening late and throw the other person under the bus.

I skip most of mine. I'd rather be in the field or at my desk getting something done, rather than listen to status updates from 10 other groups that don't really impact me.

We live in a society in a perpetual state of arrested development decaying with apathy and selfishness.

Selfishness is the root of all of this. The rampant message of “be you” “you do you” “your truth” has ruined a generation of people.

Being perpetually late sends one message and one message only: I don’t give a frick about you or your time. This attitude permeates the vast majority of everyone under 50 and it’s disgusting.

I used to think it would mean more opportunities for the few of us who work hard but it’s just creating an insurmountable work load for those who still give a shite and the lazy selfish assholes are going to drag all of us down into the sewer with them. There’s not enough of us who care to elevate them so they’ll drown us instead.

This shite in particular drives me crazy. I've stopped trying to organize anything with multiple friends because so many tend to flake out or don't communicate.

"Sorry, things have just been so busy lately" is the common excuse, like the rest of us don't have anything going on in our lives. Then a few months later, they'll text/call, "why haven't we hung out in so long?"

Remote work really highlights lateness. If you have a meeting in the office that starts at 10:30, it’s a bit more lax. Everybody generally starts making their way to the conference room at 10:30, and if the meeting starts ar 10:34 it’s no big deal. People are more proned to chit chat as it’s getting started and everyone is making their way in because they are in person. Once everybody started zooming, even being 2 minutes late feels like an eternity.
