We’ve done it. But my corporate rate is like $40 a day all in.

I've got a buddy that drives an old wrangler as his daily because it was his dad's and he loves it.

We have 2 vehicles, one is a luxury suv that we drive the kids around in, and the other is an older Jeep Wrangler. I work from home, and my wife’s round trip is only 7 miles. Whoever has the kids drives the SUV, and the other drives the Jeep. She’s going on a trip with friends next month and I will be home with the kids. It’s likely that she’s just going to rent a vehicle for a few days, because I don’t trust the Jeep on a 6 hour trip. It’s never had issues before, but I just don’t trust it. It’s not something that we’ve ever had to do, but I just prefer minimizing the risk by just getting her a rental.

If you own an EV because 99% of your driving is a commute to work and going to the grocery store but only take the kids to 30A or Disney once a year then renting a larger vehicle makes sense.

I rent a cheap car that gets 40mpg rather than take my gas guzzler on any trip more than 1000 miles. I save a ton of money that way plus I don't put the miles on my own vehicle.

If something happens I just have to go to Hertz and get a new one rather than figuring out how I’m going to tow my truck 800 miles home.

Driving to Yellowstone from Louisiana in a couple of weeks. Renting is way cheaper than the wear and tear on my own vehicle. Looking at around 4,000 miles.

I do this often. 40 bucks a day is worth to not put 1k miles on either of my vehicles for a week trip.

I have done that a few times on long distance road trips. Not that my vehicle was not reliable but was not a 4 wheel drive and I was going to be driving on mountain roads. Less wear and tear on my vehicle. I also had a family member work for the car rental company and I was able to get a great discount on some very good vehicles. Those vehicles were almost brand new as well.

My ex and I did back in the mid 80s. Rented a sports car and went on an impromptu vacation for about 10 days.

We had a truck but wanted something a little more fun. I think the 10 days of rental cost $250.

Me and the wife always rents a car when driving out of town. Oil change, gas mileage, keeping wear and tear off our vehicles makes it a no brainer.

Went to Gatlinburg/Nashville/Memphis/Little Rock 2yrs ago and 2100miles round trip in the rental was much better than the Jeep I had.

This year we are renting for a drive to Vegas and flying back.

Enterprise has a decent rewards program too.

They only want to make two car payments a year instead of 12. Makes sense to me.

Exactly. I've done this a few times for 1500+ mile (round trip) road trips. Our vehicles are high mileage because I paid them off years ago and have no intention of spending money on a vehicle again until I absolutely have to. I work from home and my wife works <8 miles from the house....outside of the occasional road trip, we have zero reason to put good money toward a bad investment like a new vehicle.
