People are hurting and you spend a lot of time with your coworkers.

Best thing in life is to enjoy not being a dick. Actually, being nice is a good thing. But these days bitching and complaining is the norm. Sad.

Had a request to sponsor Jaxxotyns baseball team wedged in my door... was in my trash can 3.5 seconds later

Future married couples asking for donations to cover their honeymoon. WTF

100% agree. One corp I worked for measured people managers on participation of employees on United Way campaigns, etc. My manager told me to just contribute a dollar, and he'd give me a dollar in return to make the metric. I donated a buck to the Baton Rouge literacy foundation back then (stupid given the EBR library budget,) and he handed me a dollar. Otherwise, get fricked.
Your kid needs to setup a table at Lowes on a Saturday to sell their shite.

United Way is a BS charity.

Complaining about friendly gestures that require nothing more than a (optional) couple bucks from you, for one.

The company i work for has $2B profit each year and they want us to buy swag and field wear. F that when I am in the field and spending my money, I represent LSU.

I have been asked for baby shower gift contributions no less than 7 times at my job and it’s always for people I have never met.

One of my coworkers at the time had a wife that worked there. I hadn't gotten into Big4 yet, but the stories he told me about what was plainly fraud were amazing. I think she made like $40k a year as their accountant, and it was shady AF. Baton Rouge is corrupt at every level.

Bosses day. Never understood why I should give money for a gift card for someone who makes more money than I do.

Most recent example is someone in another service line is retiring and I just got a blast email asking to contribute to her retirement gift. I know this lady from in passing in the break room, I’m not giving you money to send her to a spa for or jelly of the month club. Get the frick out of here. Baby gifts, kids baseball team, blah, blah, blah. Go panhandle outside your nearest grocery store for that shite. Embarrassing
We get it. You’re poor. Keep working hard and maybe one day you’ll be able to contribute to the jellyfish of the month award

I hate this so much. One time, the chick in charge of the collecting had the nerve to personally ping me when she noticed I hadn’t “voluntarily” contributed. Then when I venmo’d, it was a whole ordeal because she wasn’t seeing it, and somewhat insinuated that I never sent it. Soliciting money like this should be explicitly forbidden in the workplace code of conduct.

If it's somebody I know and like, I might get them a gift or card myself. I had just started working for a company less than 30 days when they came around looking for a chip in on a b'day cake, can't be "that cheap arse new guy", so I chipped in. Two months later, I didn't expect anything for my birthday, but they got me a real nice spun steel wok, someone heard me saw mine got ruined with rust.
Some offices have a great camaraderie about occasions and gifts, the owner always chippe in a wad.
