While your etymology is correct, I don’t know any Cajuns that use that turn of phrase. It’s much more common among New Orleans creoles.

My wife and I have eaten on less than $100 each week for the past 2-3 years. We cook almost everything ourselves. Got together when we were dirt poor so I guess it’s a trait we kept up with.

BIG GROCERY owns you! Salmon and brisket don't NEED to cost as much as it does. It's the Pizza Gate Deep State Illuminati making groceries way more expensive to keep everyone else from obtaining the TRUE wealth.

I pretty much buy alchohol and veggies. I put up a few hundred lbs of diverse game meat in the winter and lately have been catching enough fish each weekend to eat all week. Anout 30 buckw at the store per week right now

Food cost increases aren't reflected in overall inflation figures … for a good reason. A 8.5oz bag of Lays Potato Chips cost the same today as a 16oz bag 5 years ago. 100% inflation over 5 years.

What grocery store do you go to? If it’s a Whole Foods type place probably not. If it’s Wal Mart or a Food 4 Less type store, absolutely.
Buying things like TP in bulk at Costco or Sams Club helps a lot too (if you can manage to avoid stuff you don’t need).
Also... it goes without saying but organic costs a lot more (and is nothing more than a marketing ploy imo).
I go to the poor people stores because I’m cheap and I don’t mind bagging my own groceries. Typically spend about $60/week (admittedly it’s just me and the GF, no kids)
