Yep. And that station wagon was full of bags of groceries. Kids had to bring it all in. Best day of the month.

I hated carrying those 2 liter glass bottles of Shasta cola...
There were just paper bags with no handles unlike today...

No way here. I've got 2 teenage boys who want to eat the whole load of groceries in 1 day. I'm convinced I could go to the store and buy $100 worth of chips/cookies/snacks/frozen pizzas a day and still have them ask what's for dinner.
For 2 adults? easily.

If I'm just getting food, I spend very little. I meal plan and don't buy anything that isn't on the list for those specific meals. We don't snack or eat breakfast in this house, and no kids, so we aren't talking a ton of food.
But alcohol can easily bump the cost. Beer can range from $10-$15 per 4/6 pack. Wine averages ~$25/bottle. Adds up quickly.

Once every two months I'll have a bill over 100. That usually when I am adding in cleaning supplies or toiletries

My grandparents from French Settlement used to say make groceries, along with "save it" instead of putting them away.

I really try to make a grocery run for just what I need, but depending upon the day, some of the empty shelves have stock. So a pack of ground meat, a roll of paper towels & a particular vegetable quickly pushes the tab to a hundred. I cook what I eat, no fast food or take-out, as tempted as I am some nights. Usually good for a two week stretch at the most. Some of the baskets I see has me thinking these folks aren’t coming out again for six months. Leave something for the next person.

We aim for $80/week combined for 2 people. Lots of pasta, fresh produce, crockpot and 1-pan meals. Very rarely do we get meat and bread.
