Incredible inefficiency on display (at a precinct near you)

A – L line….5 people waiting
M – Z Line…43 people waiting
Average of 2 minutes 16 seconds to sign in each voter in my line (yes, I was bored so decided to compute the average..had no cell service). 4 out of 7 voting machines were not being used.
One 80 year old lady that cannot see is in charge of reading the tiny print on my driver’s license then looking for my name on the print out then slowly spelling my name out, one letter at a time, to two other 90 year old women who cannot hear or write with any speed.
We have more computing power in the palm of our hands than we did when we put a man on the moon but we cannot figure a secure and efficient way to vote?

I'm guessing most of the volunteers are all retired and that the younger crowd is either working or not interested in volunteering. Its definitely not efficient, but you don't exactly have young people working either.

why limit this qualifier to voting?
that's an astounding thought though

Volunteer? I believe hey are paid. At least the one I know who does it is paid.
It's a loooong day though - 530am through the last voter in line at 8pm plus then closing down the machines - and it's full of impatient a-holes who think they should just be able to walk in a vote immediately.

District 2 had 40-50 people in line.
District 2A had like 5-10
Was absurd.
One of the guys working looked exactly like Blake from Workaholics.
rest were old ladies.

Maybe you should volunteer next time so the 90 year olds don't have to do it.

Exact opposite of where I voted. Where did you vote

My precinct was very efficient, and always has been. Poll workers are paid for their time. They aren't just volunteering for fun.

So you're saying I should vote 'yes' to CA No 1 - Registrar of Voters?

Why are you so impatient?

Bru, there was only 2 weeks of early voting allowed. A playa doesn't have time to clear his schedule.

They kinda have to if it's two different precincts. The ballots won't necessarily be the same, so they can't use the same machines. My polling place has two precincts that vote there and I live in the small one. There were 40 or 50 people in line for the other precinct. I walked in, signed the voter roll, voted, and was out in under a minute.
There was abundant stinkeye on me as I left with my shiny new "I voted" sticker.

None of these people work so they don't give two shits about your time.

Mine was A-J with a line into the parking lot and NOT A SINGLE PERSON in the K-Z line. WTH is going on in South Baton Rouge? We all related or what?

I was in and out in less than ten minutes at the Lutheran church on jones creek. No line for either at 10am.

In Louisiana, they are PAID to work there. I would be happy to volunteer for free but it appears those in charge don't care about efficiency. My point is the system is broken based on the technology that is readily available to us.
One person (man, women, old, young) looking for your name on a print out. One person calling your name out to two other people that hand write your name. Then you are directed to a booth (in my case, by an 80 year old paid volunteer who seems to have bladder issues because he would leave his post to take a piss after an average of 8.2 voters)that fits your address because you may be voting for different Propositions.
Since they ask for your Driver's license, why not scan it? If people are concerned about fraud then have some app where you go online and get some bar code that can only be used with your drivers license (double verification). Once you check in, the bar code can be used in the booth in order to determine what props you are voting on.
There should be no need for A-K and L-M if some simple technological steps were taken. There is no reason for the booths not to be smart based on your address. There should never be idle booths. There should never be 40 in one line and 5 in another if some simple technological steps were taken.
And finally, there should be a line for people who have not read the FREAKING ballot before going into the booth.
OK..I feel better now.

I am amazed every year that they don't have hand out sample ballots for the people in line. Give you a copy to read while you wait, hand it in when they check your ID.
Not rocket surgery.

Sucks
My precinct was all together. Maybe 10 people ahead of me in line and I was in and out in 20 minutes
