Ive had Geico my whole adult life, an no issues on the minimal claims i've had. Geico has been increasing their rates slowly every 6months, so dont believe it if they say no. Im sure others have too though with all the flooding ruining cars etc. Just wish as a paying customer/consumer I could request a reasonable break down of what i'm paying for other than it being mandated and "safe guard". Why am I paying $20 more a month today over a year ago, when I had no claims, etc? I get it we "share the burden" but it's like we have no right to at least know. Especially when i'm not one of those being a true burden.

Also, I think ins companies need to do more against doctors, lawyers, etc that illegally take advantage increasing rates. Or at least how much of my payment goes towards "accepting it"??

I don't know about zero but most people don't have many. I've filed one in my 26 years of driving. I backed into a car in a dark field in HS.

I've filed about 4 for my wife in the 13 years we've been married

I’ve been from Geico to State Farm to Progressive. Each slowly raises your rates until you get tired of it. You call or get an online quote, see the opportunity to save big, and switch. Rinse. Repeat.

28 years with State Farm and they never did anything for me except raise my premiums. My agent has never personally called me. Their agent-driven business model is doomed for failure in the 21st century.

My experience with State Farm was a little different. They occasionally called me. Since I switched to Farm Bureau, I hear from them frequently, though.

Ours went down this time when it renewed. Not a lot but like $20 per month.

Homeowners goes up every damn year though even though we have never made a claim.

Go to an independent agent that represents tons of carriers and get them to shop your coverage for you. They will also help you figure out what coverages you need.

This. They’re agnostic which actually allows them to do their job. Keep premiums in check and work for you. Been this way for several years and currently with progressive and have great rates.

Need to do that. We have three cars and a motorcycle.

And a 17 year old.

We're paying almost 6k a year, but we also carry a $500k coverage and a $1million umbrella. We just have too much at risk not to.

I've had both. State Farm is rediculously high but good. Geico is cheap and sucks. I had to fight them for 6 months to pay out my UIM policy after a cluncker totaled my old truck. Now I have a happy medium, liberty mutual. Over $1500\year less than SF but responsive enough when I need them.

I do the call and check rates every 3 years or so. Currently with geico, saved a ton and we've never had trouble with them. Also carry the roadside assistance with them and it's saved my wife a time or 2. Good job on saving money, most of the haters here are still with the same insurance company they've been with for decades, paying out of their arse because they think their company cares. If you don't shop around, you're getting fricked

I switched from State Farm a year ago and my premium is about a third of what it was.

All that means is you were over paying by $3500 previously. Congrats I guess.

Probably not a lot of members here over 50, but AARP insures autos and homes through The Hartford and when I went with them a few years ago I saved over $3k per year for the same coverages I had with my former company.
