The entire article reads like a "me problem." All of the issues presented can and are addressed by decent parents.

OP sucks as a parent. Little ones need to believe in the sprint of good which Santa represents if the child is christen.

Belief in Santa doesn't force a kid to behave. These people are self-centered lazy fricks who get off on rebelling against norms. Their kids are the victims of their self-righteous attention seeking.

Please calm down so we can discuss this rationally

My daughter believes in Santa. We just don't do the whole cookie and milk thing.

We don't tell her he isn't real

Children being thankful to "santa" for gifts, as opposed to thankful for their parents who may have had to sacrifice to afford those gifts, is unfortunate

Needing to receive praise for giving gifts to others is very unfortunate to me, especially from children young enough to believe in Santa. I could not care less whether I receive any praise for a single gift that I give during this time of year. Maybe I should ramp up my narcissist meter a bit more (thought it was pretty high already, but apparently I have a lot higher to go on the meter).

Oddly, yes.
The theme of religion is to be good and be granted eternal life.
Eternal life after death has long been a want of man. Pharohs, Romans, Chinese hell even cave men expected to live after death.
Now, with Christianity we have the immortal soul and you go to a good place or a bad place. You devote your life and everything you do to go to a good place you know in your heart exists.

From the outside looking in, Santa is a more believable story.
In fact Santa led me to question religion and give up on it.

Well the Elf thing is just a recent retarded marketing thing

as for Santa, I don't know

She knows who Santa is, she believes in him, we just don't "do" Santa, like the whole cookie and milk thing and she knows the presents are from us

Who isnt calm? One can calmly type about parents still stuck in their adolescent rebellion phase who allow it to impact their kids.

Telling children that Santa is not real is negatively affecting children? Tell me more

I didn't say "negatively", I said "impact." The kids simply miss out on some fun because the parents are lazy, or crave credit for the gifts or are simply still rebelling.

1) what fun do they miss out on?
2) how is this a sign of laziness on the part of the parents?
3) the parents are the ones buying the gifts, why shouldn't the children be thankful to the parents for the gifts
4) how is this a sign of rebelling? Did you read the article?
