Pecker do you have kids? FWIW, i think elf on the shelf is retarded.. as is most of the fads that are popular on social media... serious question: was elf on the shelf a thing before Facebook? This post was edited on 12/11 at 8:53 am

Yes, or at least before FB became what it is tiday. The Elf has been around at least the early 2000s.

How is it that the tradition isn't that the presents are from Jesus Christ? Wouldn't that make more sense, seeing as it is a Christian holiday, than does the presents having come from some secular Santa? ( Is Santa even Christian? ).

Seems it would be a good way to make Jesus Christ appealing to kids. I mean, the dude not only loves you but gives you Xbox's and iWatches. And isn't that worthy of lifelong devotion in gratitude?

I do however have a problem when these people feel the need to tell other families how wrong they are for lying to their children or tell other people's children that santa isn't real.

Yes. That is bullshite.

It can be about multiple things, including Santa.

Rebelling against "bourgeois" social norms in order for the parents to feel superior. Then inventing all manner of rationalizations about how it's not about that, like in your story.

If it can be about multiple things, then what's wrong with it being about all things excluding Santa? I'm not telling you not to push Santa as a man who delivers gifts to children who behave. That's your prerogative and I see nothing wrong with it. So why do you suggest that parents must push Santa as a real figure lest the children be robbed of joy? Why must a child's joy, as it relates to Christmas, be dependent on Santa?

Yeah, this is lame. If you want your kids to believe in Santa then go for it. But I think it's lame, and strange, for the Santa Lobby to push that children are being robbed of Christmas Joy for knowing that Santa isn't a real man flying around on a sled delivering tons of gifts to rich kids and no gifts to poor kids.

I'm not pushing anything. This thread was about anti Santa parents vomiting their self-righteousness in print and your posting of it because you're supportive. I'd never have posted about Santa if it weren't for your thread pushing the anti-Santa angle.

My imaginary kids are very intelligent and mature for their age. They question the logistics of santa's alleged gift deliveries, and the unmerited reception of gifts by children who have not behaved.

Nice line of reasoning. Also make sure they read no Harry Potter or watch any Star Wars. For that matter, eliminate ALL fairy tales from their youth...Indeed, ALL fiction, cause you know, it's not real.

My son believes in tons of stuff that isn't real. He has an imagination. He's 3. I'm not concerned he'll lead some terrible life because he believes in Santa for a few years. He is getting a kick out of Christmas this year and it's certainly not something I'm going to take away from him because I for some reason think I'm better than playing pretend with my kid for a few years. Plenty of people made a pretty good life for themselves after believing in Santa for a bit.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling or just that disconnected from reality... dude, Christmas isn’t about you nor is it about your ability to get up on a pedestal and try to shite on everyone who does Christmas the traditional way.. it’s all about the children

I’m not sure how old you are, but you seem genuinely immature, provided this isn’t a troll thread
