I guess we shall see if this ad has any effect on their sales.
I'm guessing it will be marginal either way, if any at all
People forget about these things pretty quick

Now cross reference that with their shaving habits. That's the claim you made.

I missed something this is the third day of faux outrage against Gillette. They must have said something about Trump

Its very easy to simply grab a different razor brand.

That means nothing. Most rational people don't fall in step with every single thing down party lines.

But most people do agree with it, which is why it's insulting.
It would be like vagisil doing a commercial lecturing women about prostitution, or gold digging. Or Popeyes lecturing black people about not being criminals.
It's taking stereotypes and lecturing all of us on it even though it's such a small portion that are actually guilty of it.
Except for the 8 year old beating the crap out of the other kid, apparently I'm the only one here that would stop that from happening.

Scruffy’s contention is that women use the same razor for a longer period of time, which accounts for the massive disparity and is also the reason behind the increased pricing for female razors.
Also...men are just fricking hairier.
Most women don’t have moustaches.
Except for the Indian ones

maybe they are trying to boost women sales?
Maybe. But don’t you agree that from a business standpoint it’s pretty stupid to try and boost sales from a smaller demographic of your customer base by insulting your largest customer base?

Gillette is being motivated by a false premise
Precisely. The message at the end of the commercial falls flat as a result.

There are A LOT of brands out there that don’t cost upwards of $25-30.
Honestly, Scruffy isn’t sure why people spend that kind of money on razors anyway.

Yes, because there’s an unrealized huge portion of the conservative and moderate male population who are secretly SJWs.

If I thought this was a purely capitalistic play for sales I'd be all about it
I'm fine with companies taking dumb social stances for bottom line purposes, but I doubt this is in that category

Look at the private label share. I assume that's DSC and similar. I don't know if there's a women's equivalent. They could be slightly conceding the business to them and going all in on women.

I don't really care one way or the other about the commercial itself, but I was kinda surprised to see the outrage.
All we've been hearing about (especially coming to this website with the demographics here) when shitty men act out and are caught is how "not all men" are like this. And I 100000% stand behind the "not all men" culture. I've always been pretty defensive against the stance some extreme women have that immediately blanket men into one group.
But I feel like I must have watched a different commercial than all of you because what I saw was a commercial saying exactly that: not all men. They were basically saying, "Hey, men. We know that not all men are shitbags. We agree with you. So when you see a man being a shitbag, call him out." Is this all that wild to people? I mean, I knew dudes who groped random women in Tigerland every single time they'd get drunk and other than "dude you're gonna get us kicked out" every so often, not a single "bro" of theirs did anything of meaning to stop them.
There's a lot of people, both men and women, who roll their eyes at this stuff that's been happening because "of course its bad, but i don't do it! Only bad men do it!" Yet enough women have at least a couple instances over their lifetime of grope-y/creepy/etc. stuff happening. Someone is doing it. If you're such a good man, why would acknowledging that plenty of them are shitbags be so offensive? It would be like calling out obese people in a commercial and a bunch of NON-obese folks being offended for being called obese?
Remember the "dinner ready is pizza??" domestic violence PSA from the early 90s? Nobody was up in arms over that. Anyone who wasn't abusive knew the commercial wasn't geared towards them. So I guess I'm just confused as to how commercial basically saying that we have lots of good men in this world that women are relying on to keep their a-hole friends in check is inciting so much anger
The defensiveness is just odd to me.

The first half absolutely was driving home the point on "men in general"
Also, there is zero logic in them making a commercial or ad to start if they beleived it was only a small portion of men. The fact they made it in itself shows you what they feel of general masculinity
