Who is liable in the event of an injury on a sidewalk though? If I am jogging and trip on an uneven section of the sidewalk I highly doubt that the homeowner will be liable.

Oh I agree. The sidewalk is a public right-of-way... but must be maintained by the property owner.

People calling the poster an idiot for saying property owners have to maintain sidewalks are wrong. But for the purpose of this thread, the protesters were blocking a public right-of-way.

People are calling him an idiot for insinuating that since the property owner may have a duty to maintain the sidewalk, the sidewalk is private property.

Not sure how accurate this is, only thing I've seen posted so far relative to what happened before the arrests started happening.

We also had the quote of the entire weekend during this incident, if I remember right. Something to the effect of "Not even Rosetta Stone was treated this bad on that bus!"

Exactly. I have a public (utility) servitude on one side of my home in EBR. While it has a gate traversing it, and I am responsible for cutting the grass on it, I can't tell anyone that feels like walking there to leave.

Not sure what is so hard to understand. When you break the law there are no safe spaces -per BRPD.

Once you have broken the law there is no safe space

This is literally the opposite of what happened. The homeowner, trinity, came out telling the COPS to get off her property.

The point you are missing is it doesn't fricking matter. Arrest the woman for obstruction and aiding criminals then.

The key point in there is that it is the property owner's responsibility to keep it maintained and unobstructed, and the requirement that the general public not obstruct it. No where in that dos it say it is the owner's property.

That is an amazing picture. A black cop tackling white people and a black woman running away saying black lives matter. Bravo, idiots.

Except the cops had horrible technique. They need to go spend a few days with Coach O and post the video on the OT.

Homeowner or City depending on who maintains sidewalk if you can prove negligence. So, the city or homeowner would have to know about the unsafe condition before the injury occurred.

If the damage was not caused by the home owner, he should notify the city/parish. I would believe that once that notification is made, the city would become responsible. If the damage was caused by the homeowner, then they are responsible.

EBR DPW actually repaired a damaged portion of sidewalk at my previous home with one call to 311...in a similarly zoned neighborhood as Beauregard town.

Took them less than 6 weeks from phone call to completion.

When I owned in Beauregard , my lot did not begin until after the sidewalk. The City owned the land between sidewalk to sidewalk across the street. This is not the case in my new home in which the sidewalk crossing my land. They repaired your sidewalk because it wasn't yours to maintain. Or it was damaged during drainage/sewer/other repairs.

I know there is a public servitude and zoning says property owner can't build there but is the actual property line at the street or at the servitude?

I figure the street so they can tax you on the SF of land even though you can't build on it.

Very rarely is the property line at the street.usually the property line starts about 5'-10' off the street. It's so that the local municipality can put in sidewalks or work on utilities as needed.

Crowd looks like 40% cops, 10 % black, 40% hippie SJW with cell phones, and 10% news crews.
News and social media are throwing gasoline on a tiny spark.

Police were doing what they had to. I bet you the mayor and police chief told them to get as aggressive as they have to, just make sure those fricks don't get to our interstates and cause unnecessary trouble.

No to mention, after what happened in Dallas, do you blame the police for being in riot gear? I don't always side with the police.. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for their service, as a whole, I am just saying my opinion isn't bias, I don't always side with police. But in this situation I think they have to be extremely aggressive.

this thread shows what the real problem is in the world today. Everybody thinks they are a damn expert in everything because they googled it.
