When dipshits do this, I like to throw my blinker on just as the car tailgating me nearly has a chance to pass the car I just passed.. and almost has the ability to go around me in the right lane.

Then, I will merge over into the right lane gradually over about 20 seconds to piss them off more.

I always throw the blinker on, I also wait a reasonable amount of time to get in the right lane after passing an 18 wheeler to get some distance between us instead of immediately getting right in front of them. That seems to really upset the impatient people for some reason.

They could have very easily gotten back into the right lane in front of the merging vehicle
If you're passing car(s) you should not have to merge over when a car is merging where you'd have to pretty drastically slow down. What should happen in that instance is the one wanting to go fast in the left lane should be patient and wait for the passer in front to have a clear spot to get back in the right lane with minimal slowing down on his part.

So hypothetically, the brake checker actually kills the tailgater. What you think will happen to the brake checker?
A similar fate that the fast driver would face if/when his fast driving caused an accident killing someone else?

Some of you act like this car came out of thin air. You don't think they can see ahead of the car before tailgating?

What?

If we're driving 70mph and you're 6 inches behind my bumper, no you absolutely do not have the same view I have of what's in front of me. You will not be able to react as quickly to some sort of debris on the road that will cause me the driver in front to slow down. Is that not obvious?

There is no law against brake checking. It's a he said, she said and usually the majority of the fault falls on the car behind.

We do have laws about following too closely. You are supposed to follow at a distance that allows you to maneuver or stop at all times if the car in front of you comes to an abrupt stop.

No one does this....hence the thousands upon thousands of fender benders that happen every day.

Even if someone gets hurt, how do you prove that the person in front purposely braked to harm you? You're supposed to be far enough back that that doesn't matter. I guess if you have a camera, you have a shot at proving it. I would venture the person is just going to say, "I saw something in the road and was spooked and braked to be careful." How are you going to defend that when you are the one that was right on their arse causing the entire dangerous situation?

All of this shite is dangerous, tailgating and brake checking are both dangerous.

One is easy to prove however and the other is damn near impossible.

The brake checker had just passed the car filming, was going faster than the silver van and probably intended to not only pass that van but also stay left to allow merging traffic in. The tailgater was being an unsafe, impatient a-hole and paid the price.

ETA - The brake checker is in the wrong here too. Inexcusable to cause an accident like that even if you hate tailgaters.

No its not. You are going to take all of the blame if I brake check you and you wreck.
I am going to just say I saw something in the road. I have the right of way, you are supposed to leave distance.
Reckless driving is a crime. Your dash cam only proves that you drove recklessly, not me.

Your entire argument is dumb.

I'd love for you to have my commute. Speed limit of 65, I do 75. 3 lanes on the hardy toll road. Right 2 going 65ish. Not a car in sight behind me. I get in left lane and start passing. Sometimes, it takes me miles to pass all the people stacked up doing 65. You come up behind me doing 80, I'm going to get over as soon as I don't have to wedge myself into a 2' gap. Screw anything else. Don't get all huffy like I should have never been there. I been steady passing people in the passing lane.

It's a passing lane and I'm still passing. You can even call it the fast lane if you want....I don't care. But it damn sure isn't "the fastest" lane as in whoever is going fastest has the right to it. If you are passing or doing everyone a net positive service by using the lane to help traffic flow better, more power to you (now cutting in at the last second, cruising, etc obviously has more of a negative than positive effect). I could give a f**k less about an individual who thinks his time is more important than mine when I'm also using the lane to it's intended purpose.

I would say that most of the time I have ran into this situation...it is someone looking down at their cell phone and not paying attention to what is going on around them.

Women more than men. Black males more than white males.

No facts to support those, just my personal observations.

That a-hole kinda deserved that. No reason to follow that close to someone on a empty interstate. He was only a few feet off the other car's arse.

Wonder if something happened between the drivers before they entered frame.

Should charge the tailgater also.

This all day. Tapping your brakes isn't reckless if the person behind you isn't tailgating. The video cannot even show that you knew the person was tailgating at the time. And even if it somehow did, it certainly can't prove the intent as to why you tapped the brakes. If it could, I agree that there would be a punishment. But it can't, so there is the end to that argument.

The tailgater was being an a-hole. Its best to accommodate these people to let them get away from you.

People should not try play police in the left lane, period. Once you start slowing down or trying to mess with the tailgater, you now have become the dangerous a-hole.

If you are on a standard 70mph interstate and want to go less than 75, you should avoid the left lane as much as possible. If you have to pass some trucks and the flow of traffic dictates it, speed up to pass.
