I mean, the video shows the brake checker getting back into the right lane after brake checking

I despise left lane pokalongs I'd like to blow them up, but yeah you gotta be reasonable as to expectations for people to be able to get over.

When is it ever okay to tailgate? I'm not sure.

Never. I dont think anyone has defended the tailgater as not being an a-hole.

Isnt brake checking just as illegal as tailgating?

define brake-checking. there are numerous times when i have to tap or even slam on brakes while trying to pass a big-rig, with some ahole riding my arse even though i literally can go nowhere (except median). Hard to gauge intent there and it's tailgater's word against brake-tapper's. Tailgater ain't winning that unless there's a really good impartial witness who can somehow help establish the braking was an intentional "brake-check."

Then you have a responsibility to do it as quickly as safely possible.

Do you think that wasn't a break check?

And as always, this is where I disagree. I am under no obligation to speed up to 90 to pass trucks in the right lane just so the guy closing in at 100 doesn't have to tap his breaks.

I don't think he even really "brake checked" the person. Looks like a small tap of the brakes, not a slamming of the brakes.

who are you arguing with and what are you arguing? The break checker is worse than the tailgater?

I saw a guy weaving in and out of traffic on the interstate. He was in left lane going ab 15 over and cop got up on his arse, he brake checked the shite out of the cop, pulled him over immediately. Instant karma is great

That is a real judgement call though, your responsibility really ends at using the left lane only for passing. The speed at which you pass (unless being a dick and going 0.5 miles faster than cars on right) is really up to you. If there is a line of cars going 70, and i'm going 80, its reasonable for me to continue passing them and the dude behind me that wants to go 90 sort of just has to wait for me to have an opportunity to get over. The fastest car on the road doesn't dictate the speed of the passing lane.

Saw this yesterday on the spillway at 630 am. Black matte finished 4-Runner with a big roofrack(looked like an outdoorsy type).

Absolutely dangerous and more than likely how that drunk retard hit that jeep full of kids on way home from JazzFest last Sunday

Right, the law is that the left lane is for passing vehicles in the right lane. The law isn't "you have to get out of the way of any vehicle behind you if you are in the left lane".

If you're driving 65 and are passing vehicles in the right lane that are driving 60, it's not your responsibility to jump into the right lane to get out of the way of a vehicle behind you that is driving 70.

They hit the brakes for no reason to send a message to the person behind them. The intent, not the extent is the problem.

I had an 18 wheeler tailgate me in the slow lane. I brake checked him. He goes around me and trust to brake check me. At that point I had it videoing and sent in to his employer. Especially that I was in the right lane and it's not like I could get over again.

You don’t. If you are going a reasonable speed for the left lane(over the speed limit), stay with that speed till you clear the truck, put on your blinkers to let the driver know you are getting over.

You do not owe people this courtesy when you are not in the left lane. I will break check people if they pull this shite when im in the right lane

That car for sure braked for no reason, but the tailgater also shouldn't have lost control of the vehicle that easily. I don't see how that person lost control that badly
