re: I'm in law enforcement and I stereotype people all day

Every place I go, every street I walk on, every store I enter, any event I attend, etc., etc., I watch and observe the people around me and those with whom I interact. It's a self-preservation instinct I've honed and stereotyping is just a tool. The wife and I aren't getting got because of a lack of awareness.

We've spent 10,000 years profiling every situation we encounter in order to survive but our progressive friends think we should just throw that to the wayside so we don't hurt someone's feelings

So which is it? It can’t be both. If it’s the former, you should not have chosen this profession.

But you admittedly are not looking out for the safety of all citizens.
You're reaching the completely wrong conclusion here. I disagree strongly and feel that I'm often looking out for the safety of those citizens most vulnerable to violent crime, which are generally minority neighborhoods.

had it occured to you thst some people live in poor areas not because they are criminals, but because they are poor and that may be the only housing they can afford on their income.
I do not look down upon poor people simply for being poor, nor would I allow that to impact my actions. I will say, however, that poor people ARE more likely to commit criminal acts. Statistics would validate this supposition.

As soon as we see anyone at any time, we start to make evaluations on them. This is natural, and the people who say they don't do it are full of shite.

I agree with your modus operandi. After all, everyone's a little bit racist.

Stereotyping is fine and dandy and is expected in law enforcement, just as it is amongst all other walks of life.
The problem is when you ACT upon the stereotypes. If you see a group of what you deem to be stereotypical "thugs" hanging out in a small group on a street corner, you can't allow the stereotype to drive your desire to illegally question them about what they're doing, asking for ID, etc. You HAVE to have probable cause. Similar to that AZ law from a few years ago that allowed AZ LOE to stop anyone for papers based on how they look. Sure, they may be right 99% of the time but that 1% is an unacceptable number of people to have their constitutional rights as American citizens trampled.
If you see something criminal or are entering into a situation where you are enforcing the law, by all means, stereotype away....just don't harass people who you haven't seen do anything illegal just because "they don't look right".

Stereotyping=situational awareness= staying alive.

You also give a justifable reason to distrust police
You are just now doing the EXACT same thing you dislike about the OP. Because ONE person has expressed his opinions, you have lumped ALL the police into the same category. You did it so naturally, you didn't even realize it.
The outspoken lesbian soccer player Rapinoe is outspoken about her "injustices" because of who she is. Yet, she dislikes EVERY Republican, based solely on their political party affiliation. So, she, too, is doing the EXACT same thing that she is so outspoken against.
The comments made by the OP are embedded due to prior personal experiences. In order for this to go away, is not complaining or disliking the people with those feelings, but to do something about WHY someone would have that feeling.
In other words, let's eliminate the crime. This starts with your family, with my family, with everyone's family. One person, nor one group, can solve this age old issue, but if everyone did their part, it would solve it.
If you're a mother or father of a young adolescent, who you see breaking the law, encourage him to stop it. Tell him it's not for the good of everyone, society. Don't get mad at the police who may catch your child and try to blame this crime on the police or society or whatever. It only allows it to continue.
Stop it. If and when this can be done, then America, as a whole can become great. No one will bitch about race, etc. if everyone can just trust each other and know they are doing their part.

Problem - police have power of life and death. They should be held to a higher standard than your average citizen or a silly lezbo.

Yep.
Statistically speaking, people that look like Post Malone aren't going to be multi-millionaires. No one would argue that. So if he's hanging around the side of a gas station at 2am, he's going to get the same treatment as the meth-addicted guy from the trailer down the street.

And when I come across a group of black males aged 16-25 I absolutely treat them differently than pretty much anyone else. I'm professional and courteous as the situation dictates but my tolerance for anything out of the ordinary is razor thin. Why? Because statistically this group is the single deadliest, most violent group of people in the country.
