I do the same thing. You have to be aware of your surroundings. You need to know the hazards that may be presented.

I was in NOLA a couple months back and forgot to fill up before I went. I needed gas. When I pulled up to the station I noticed a guy “hanging out”. As I pulled up I told my girlfriend this guy will come towards me and if a fight started hop over and to drive off. Sure enough here he comes. I told him to stay away. He continued walking towards me. I repeated. He got within 10 feet of me. I told him if he took one more step I was going to spray his arse with gasoline. He turned and walked away. Usually I have my gun with me and unfortunately that evening I didn’t.
