I'd be pissed too if my job was nothing more than a mall kiosk hustle. Mingo probably outfits his cheap clothing with the usual assortment of imported garbage sold to the left and right of his "office"...

Pretty sure it's a basic evolutionary instinct to warn against danger. Just like realizing based on past interactions and/or observations based on behavior that a golden retriever poses less of a threat to me than wolf. Animals do this all the time.

I've been fine. I stopped posting on TD all together for like a year and a half after the whole Sterling situation, because I knew "race" threads were going to takeover the board with no end it sight lol. I came back towards the end of last year and have mostly been lurking/posting periodically on the MSB. I've come over to the OT because I was on there for so long it became addicting so I post and get my "high" in every once in awhile...

My only comment to add is that the word “stereotype” is not as precise as we’d like it to be. It really means different things to different people.

As opposed to “hardened stereotypes”, police use “soft stereotyping” for first impressions only until the assessment is supplemented and updated continuously during any interaction.

To be clear, information obtained by soft stereotyping is not sufficient in itself to draw firm conclusions, but is only part of initial assessments.

Hard stereotyping is characterized by fixed opinions that are resistant to updating by additional, often contrary, information.

I am always suspicious. Do I have to "act" suspicious? well, no. But, I am.

And it's saved my life a half dozen times. Even off duty I sort and categorize everyone that comes near me. I use dress, appearance, body posture, age, sex, race and past experiences to develop an informal threat matrix of every person I encounter. Everyone, everywhere does this at all times. Psychologically it's impossible not too. People may choose to ignore it or act differently towards their perceptions, but it is happening.
