Socioeconomics clearly play a role, however I don't think revenue generation is that important, but the war on drugs is the main root of the current tensions.

No one deserves to be shot and killed and I seriously doubt the police went there with the intent to kill the man, but the dude had a gun and he wasn't going down without a fight.

He resisted arrest, was tased and it didn't phase him. They had him on the ground and he was fighting them, he was a big ole boy. He was clearly reaching for his pocket with the gun in it.

This guy gives a good explanation as to why it was justified.

I agree with you its more about money than race. Class status plays a bigger role than race, but people are so quick to make it all about race. To be honest, I hate all that shite, I am not one to hate someone just because of the color of their skin. Either way, I agree with you for the most part.

If you can't afford a speeding ticket, you can't afford to drive the car you're speeding in.

Furthermore, if you can't afford to rent the locker for your cell phone during your court hearing, you can't afford that cell phone in the first place.

OMG this is fricking classic. Always a huge what if to fit the narrative of "the oppressed."

Agreed that the OP makes good points and that the war on drugs isn't helping the situation. Let's just say for argument's sake that x% of cops are rotten and will do bad things. If we reduce the demand for cops then the total number of bad cops is reduced. How do you reduce the demand? Diminish the war on drugs and STOP COMMITTING CRIMES. Notice the rap sheets on nearly all of the "murder by cop" situations.

He was going to jail because he was selling bootlegged CD's. That's a crime people get arrested for regardless of race (I remember a guy in high school getting arrested for selling bootlegged cassettes - this was in the 80's and he was white).

This is 100% truth. Taxation by policing is absolutely wrong as is civil asset forfeiture absent conviction, and both of these were expanded and emboldened by our failed War on Drugs. Giving police an incentive to crack down on arbitrary activity so they can properly fund themselves inevitably leads to the kinds of abuses we have all become used to such as what happened here, speed traps, no-refusal checkpoints, no-knock warrant raids. We have turned our police forces from being protectors of property rights and guardians of public safety into highway robbers.

There is some truth to this statement and thus it is valuable in trying to move forward.

That being said, you undermine your argument when you like the media and BLM and protesters start applying it to every situation.

This case had ZERO to do with what you are talking about. It was a response to a call about a violent criminal waving around a gun and low an behold that is exactly what was found and properly dealt with.

I'm more referring to the mass arrests for jaywalking. F$&k Sterling. He was a convicted felon threatening people with a loaded firearm.

The white liberal hipster douchebags running around with backpacks and signs are the worst part of the whole group.

They should all be gagged and beat with a tree limb.

Holee shite dude.

So the frickers know you can't bring a phone, yet they bring em anyway.

Sorry that I work and pay for my car. I just leave my phone in the car before going in.

If they are so poor, how can they afford a cell phone? Something just doesn't add up.

Why do you think the police set up dui check points in white areas? Because they know they will pay the fines and court fees. And that mommy and daddy will pay the bail.

As a retired Probation Officer, I think you make some great points here.

Well done, sir.
