I've always wondered how productive I could be on this medicine. I've never used it but I would love to know just how much more productive I could be if taken in extreme circumstances.

I don't crash taking it. If you don't overdo it and don't take it when you don't need it, it doesn't seem to cause problems.

I'm 32 and have been taking it for about a year (started at 10 mg twice a day IR, just got bumped up to 20mg twice a day IR), and have experienced both the good and the bad. Love it when I take it and get tons of stuff down, and the loss of appetite thing helps to keep my weight in check. I have a very addictive personality though, and the first couple of months I would run out a week or so before my next refill, and that was pure HELL. That would last a couple of days, then I would get back to my "normal" self.
I have since gotten over that, and have learned to adjust my mind without it. Plus I think it's a good thing to take a break from it, so you can catch up on some sleep and give your body a rest.
All of that being said, I don't really "need" it. The over-diagnosis of ADD/ADHD allowed me to take advantage and get the prescription. It's all about self control though, and whether or not you have any. I sure didn't at first, but I feel like I've mastered it. Good luck to you.

You were about 10 years too early I guess to experience Adde3rall in college.
They were like gold. I hardly ever went to class. I would just pop four or five of those over the course of finals/midterms week and I was good to go. I once went through the entire intermediate accounting book in a single night -- including the review questions after each chapter. By the time I finished it was 8 am, so I closed the book, walked straight to my exam and got an A.

My doctor would have told me to try getting more sleep. This dude's doctor puts him on Adderall.

this is true too. Mine has crawled up back in its shell. To be fair to Adderall though, mine was pretty damn small anyway.
it doesn't kill my drive though. I do tell my wife that though when I'm not in the mood though

It will be like that for a few months, then you will start feeling like normal and then after a few more months you will need it just to get out of bed. It is great for short term focus but it isn't going to give you long term motivation and drive which is what you need.

Drugs are not the answer. Change your diet and you will feel like a million bucks.

I often wondered if the adult ADHD could develop after 40...I find my ability to concentrate on things that take longer time lacking.
It has seemed to for me. Maybe I'm just not as well equipped to deal with the distractions of this tech era.
I'm the same way. I'm 38, and my ability to concentrate has severely diminished.

Man, I hate Adderall. I felt so jittery & couldn't sleep. I also had to start wearing a mouth guard at night because I was grinding my teeth & my jaw always felt clenched. Because I couldn't sleep on Adderall, I had to take Adderall to function during the day. I never felt more focused, since I was so sleep deprived. It didn't matter whether I took 10mg or 60 mg (20 3x/day). Haaaated it. I had to take Xanax to even hope to sleep. Thankfully, I never felt remotely addicted to it. I stopped taking anything all together, because it was preferable to how Adderall made me feel.
Vyvanse is a miracle compared to Adderall for me. I don't feel jittery, and I can sleep fine at night. It also kills my appetite. The downside is that I have to pay out the arse for it since it's not generic like Adderall, but it's worth it. I feel human.

I have said this before on here. When I was in middle school (5th or 6th grade), I went from being in "accelerated classes" to regular classes because my grades were suddenly getting worse. My parents couldn't figure out why that happened so they sent me to a psychologist and had to take test and all that bullshite... And the results determined I had ADHD. This was in the late 80s/early 90s and I was prescribed ritalin.
When I started taking it, I hated to be on it. I lost my appetite, had trouble sleeping, headaches, etc. It helped in terms of concentration, but at that time, I rathered be a C student and not take it than to take it and be an A student. When I got to high school I was prescribed Adderall. It kept me focused, but I didn't feel like myself on it. I wasn't nearly as sociable on it and in HS I didn't want to feel like that. Looking back at it, I wish I had my priorities in line. I could have been a much better than average student that would have come with more opportunities, but I didn't.
It wasn't until my 2nd year of college when I finally told myself I needed to put school ahead of everything else so I started taking it and I was a completely different student. I still take it. I hear people say "I don't know how you can take that on a daily basis. I would be wired up all day". People who say that shouldn't be taking it.. If they are or were at some point.
If you just started taking it, it might take you a little while to get truly adjusted to it. Be consistent in when you take it, be aware of what your entire day will be like to determine when you take it. You don't want to take it 2.5 hrs before you need it, but there also might be a certain time of day you would rather it wear off by. And make sure you eat something in the morning (some people don't eat much for breakfast. You don't have to have the works or anything, but get something in you before taking it.
