You have $800k for converted shotgun double? Move uptown, Audubon...private security and nice looking women walking around the park. You can’t go wrong with all the festivals throughout the year.

Crowded and floodprone. Traffic is nightmarish.
Your answer is Ruston.

I'd say Metairie, but everyone on this board absolutely hates New Orleans.
You get to have all the fun of New Orleans without the crime and inept government.

Traffic is bad everywhere. Not just BR
It might just be because of Katrina, but this is not remotely true. Baton Rouge traffic is by far the worst in the state. It's one of the most poorly designed road systems in the country.
New Orleans really doesnt even have traffic anymore besides during rush hour and some city festivals and events.

So what? How does that equate to this conversation? I could easily see making more money at plant jobs..you know, since there are very few plants in Laffy.
So what industry were they in? Do tell

And doesn't that kinda make the point that Laffy is better to live in? Since that is what the OP asked about.
BR is a total shithole

Definitely stay away from the shitholes of Ferriday, Opelousas, and New Orleans for starters.

Monroe is where you want to be. Or Ville Platte.

True story: I would honestly move back home (pineville) if they had a semi decent job market. I could technically work from there, since I cover MS and LA, but it would be much more traveling since I have to be in NOLA and BR most frequently. My husband could also work there, but not in the same capacity. It would be an immensely better place to raise our kids. Safer, less traffic and crime, much better (public) schools, though I would send my kids to ACDS then PHS. And the mayors of both Alexandria and Pineville are actually outstanding. Good communities, pretty landscape and outdoors activities. Quiet, peaceful, family friendly. Yes, you have rednecks. But a whole lot of good people there, too.
And, we could live in a castle in pineville for what we pay for our home in Baton Rouge

You were talking about how diverse the Lafayette economy is and it's not. It goes boom or bust with energy. It had the worst job market growth in the state 20016-2017
Louisiana MSAs by total jobs gained/lost, January 2017
Change in total jobs (loss)
Jan. 2016 to Jan. 2017
Lake Charles 5,600
Baton Rouge 1,300
New Orleans 300
Monroe 200
Alexandria (400)
Shreveport (2,900)
Houma but (6,000)
Lafayette (9,000)

New Iberia. The barbers down there are nationally recognized.

Madisonville is on my radar. Where to?
Right impulse. Anywhere on the Northshore. Mandeville and Covington are great too. I moved here two years ago and will not be leaving.

Thread title is ironic given the state of the polo board right now.

Not Pine Point. We're full. Stay away.

I'm so glad I finally got out of Baton Rouge. It's only going to get worse as the black population increases.
If I had to move back to Louisiana, it'd be somewhere between Slidell and Madisonville.

LOL. Are you really dumb enough to compare job growth to economic diversity?
So, by your moronic example, if oil rises and creates job growth in 2018 in Lafayette, THEN you'll say it's diverse?
Look clown, creating job growth in an industry that already exists is NOT diversity
