If I wasn't in Nola I would try to live in the old Mandeville area by the lake.
You have restaurants, bars, and a coffee shop within walking distance.
The Tammany Trace bike trail runs through there.
It's a nice area along the lake for running.
Good schools.

I've lived in NO area, BR, Lake Chuck, and Laffy..
Laffy for the win and because of the central location and I49 if going north is needed.
There are things I like about all, and all are accessible from Laffy. And Laffy is such a diverse economy, even though heavy oil industry surrounds, it still has thrived during this bad time in oil......but here comes oil again!
Great schools as well.

Like a photocopy of my own sentiments and situation with elderly parents. When I moved back here after some years away living out of state, like many others, the scales were removed from my eyes with the BR and general area, and since then it has gotten exceedingly more depressing and trashy at every passing year since. I’m just not too sure that the answer isn’t just to somehow just gather the folks up and make one big move together, as I’m not too sure I want to live anyplace else in this state either. It is definitely a difficult move because of that, because otherwise, I’d have been gone long ago. It’s always family, and I can’t bail on them.

My parents are in their 70s and are one of the main reasons that we stay. They are divorced so one big move probably isn't happening
