If you want to escape the shitehole of B.R., but want to stay in Louisiana, where to?

Every morning I drive to work, I think I have to get out of this shithole. I can't totally leave Louisiana because of my elderly parents that I want to stay relatively close to for their remaining years. Horrendous traffic, horrible demographics, failing schools, clueless leadership, the whole city just has a funk about it. Madisonville is on my radar. Where to?

one of the small college towns. Natch, Ruston, etc. Good schools, good communities. Low crime. Good "demographics".
