Tipped $5. Lady looked at me funny. Was I in the wrong?

Preparing orders for pick up is a bigger pain in the arse than serving people in person at a table. Take that for what it’s worth.

Tipping has gotten out of control.

I tip for service. You checking my order and handing it to me is worth a few dollars. $5 max unless I’m picking up for several people.

Once you get used to pressing $0 for tip for non service related tip requests, your life gets much easier. Don’t give in

Careful if they recognize you if you go back to sit down to eat.

$0

ETA: unless it’s a massive pickup order for the whole family, then I’ll tip something. If it’s just for me, and I’m picking it up? Zero dollars.

I don’t tip takeout unless it’s a big or complicated order. Same goes with coffee shops.

How so? It comes from the kitchen and you put it in a box/boxes, then bag it. You Don’t have to get a drink order, app order, main course order, refill drinks, ask about the meal, bring check.

Tips are for service and bagging up a to go order seems to be way less service. I generally tip $1 per entree when I pick up food. I also don’t order fine dining to go, either, so I guess that makes a difference, too

Looks fine to me. I left what I thought is a decent tip ($10) for a pickup of 5 orders last weekend for mostly burgers. They had it ready, nothing missing and extra sauces without asking. Polite and friendly, too.

^this

If I’m sitting down and being served, and by that I mean a server is bringing me food and drinks during my meal, unless the service is just absolutely nonexistent, I’ll leave the customary 20%.

But if I’m picking up my food, then I’m not being served, and thus I’m not tipping.

More than enough for takeout.

Poor behavior isn't the only thing people have fatigue over

She probably looked funny at you because you were the only person to ever tip a take out order.

Probably 10% but I don't stick around to see if they look satisfied. Usually I've already paid online anyway.

I didn't use to tip for takeout but started doing it during the pandemic and stayed with it. Pickup was all that we had out here for maybe a year.

I’m with you when it comes to a regular drip coffee. But if someone’s pulling a couple shots of espresso, frothing milk, and actually crafting a drink, I’ll tip. shite’s more involved than what bartenders do, and everyone tips them.
