Got me wondering. Not sure if they're considered nice but since I've been to them, I looked to see if takeout was available. Peter Luger's in Brooklyn, Keen's in Manhattan, Pappa's steakhouse here in Houston all have takeout

I tip 10% for takeout

Nothing. It’s a psyop. Stacking more guilt on top of guilt. Be strong and don’t let them win.

Keen’s was once really great. They did not allow takeout back in the glory days. That changes as a result of Covid so they could stay in business. The others you mentioned are chains. Of course chain restaurants allow takeout.

Theres an amazing italian place in town that is not getting as much business as it should, I tip on pick ups to help keep staff going. Food is unreal good.
Chains and other places that are unremarkable nope.

How so?
lol I didn’t think my offhand remark would turn into my most downvoted post ever
The reason to-go orders are a pain in the arse is because there’s generally not a dedicated to-go order person. So either a waiter or a cook or a bartender has to get out of their regular rhythm, get the food into multiple to go containers and get it all nice and prepared for pick up. It takes several minutes to do, which doesn’t sound like much, but a busy restaurant is like a chaotic yet highly coordinated dance. There’s a rhythm that everyone gets in regardless of what job they’re doing, and everything is designed to serve people sitting in the dining room effectively. To-go orders frick up the rhythm. The quickest way to get a waiter pissed off is for the manager to tell him to go put a to-go order together bc he’s going to be taken out of his regular circuit, and that means potentially worse service for his tables and that means lower tips.
To be clear, I don’t give a frick if you tip on a to-go order. I rarely do myself (but I also don’t order to go from traditional dine-in places for the reasons above). If restaurants want to make money that way, then it’s on them. Really it’s the restaurant management fricking over its own servers, not the customers. I just posted what I posted bc there’s more to it than you might think.
Now a place like chick-fil-a or whatever, that’s a completely different situation. Their entire model is designed to prepare food to go. I’m talking about traditional dine-in places that ramped up to go orders during COVID and realized it’s a moneymaker. They’re the ones who are fricking over servers. I mean maybe some places have fine tuned it since my table waiting days, but I doubt it.
But I’m with all of yall regarding tipping culture. It’s off the rails.

I used to not tip on to-go orders but then a waiter explained something similar to me that basically they have to take time to put the order together and then they still have to tip out the bar and hostess's at the end of the night a percentage of their totals so they basically lose money out their pocket on every to-go order. So now I tip a few dollars or maybe 10% so the servers aren't losing money on my to-go orders. Like yourself, I rarely get to-go orders from sit-down restaurants but every once in a while I do.
