Has anyone ever wondered about this? Lets say you become a deaf-mute, blind, no sense of smell/taste person and also, you somehow lose your sense of touch? Would you still be conscious? would your brain register anything, i guess your memories of previous events would still be there, but would you even be able to make new memories if no new inputs are coming in?
What say the OT?

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Didn't Metallica write a song about this?

Consciousness isn't simply the sum of your senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell, plus proprioception/balance, interoception like hunger or heartbeat, etc.). It's more about the brain's capacity for subjective experience—the "what it's like" to be you, including thoughts, emotions, self-awareness, or even a bare sense of existence. Senses provide content (data about the world and body), but the machinery for awareness runs on intrinsic brain activity.

I mean your brain is still on and you can still breathe right? It'd be the most miserable existence ever but I don't know why you'd pass out unconsious just as a result of not being able to hear/see/touch/taste/smell. I guess you'd just sit there not really doing anything ha.

I’ve never read it but isn’t Johnny Got His Gun basically a story of this?

the older I've gotten the more i think about Metallica's song one. I could not imagine being deaf bling and a quadriplegic. never knowing if it was day or night never communicating with anyone. just alone with your thoughts and crying out to God for death. It sounds absolutely brutal

Maybe reminisce about all the good times you've had, all the good beer you've drank and about the 2019 LSU championship (not in your case :)
But yes, this existence would be miserable.

Basically, it's what you get with sensory deprivation tanks:

Just don't combine it with psychedelic drugs, or you wind up with Altered States:

I've tried those in the past, you still have some sensory feedback from your skin, the water temperature or the feel of the liquid on the surface of your skin, the smell of the water, etc.

Perhaps that is why the soul or conscious agents....whatever.... choose to inhabit these meat suits.

Awareness is not dependent on senses nor is cognitive function (thinking, decision making, problem solving, etc) or emotions (happy, sad, angry) (Amygdala) or even physical movement.

Heck, occipital lobe may still work even if eyes and optic nerve do not. Assuming musculoskeletal-skeletal in tact, movement still in play.

Brain would still be busy with physical movement and regulating other systems (digestion, cardio (eg, heart rate, blood pressure), endocrine (eg. body temp), reproductive (eg, menstrual cycle), etc).

Could dream.
Could pray / think.
Could move.
Could be angry or upset (Amygdala)

Could not interpret or respond to environment.

Like Sound of Silence (song), people hearing without listening, people singing without speaking. Or similar.

Bro this is some crazy shite, I was literally thinking about this exact thing in the shower this morning. I decided the only thing your mind could do would be to think about the past or future, because you'd have no experience of the present moment for your brain to process.

Without new inputs, I think you'd start hallucinating because your brain would keep trying to tell a story.
