Massachusetts has medical marijuana and the best economy along with the best education in the country. I would love to live there!

Come on up, baw! The water's.....well, actually it's really fricking cold.

And it’s not just medical marijuana anymore. Recreational is legal as well now.

Tennessee or Texas. East Tennessee is pretty awesome. It depends what you're into but Chattanooga is in between Atlanta and Nashville and is close to a bunch of great mountain biking and hiking. Overall, Nashville or Austin would be be top choices.

Ohio, Mass, and New York are all disqualified for clod weather and Manhattan is way too expensive.

Texas for sure. Great choice or more rural locations as well as urban ones. You have your more young liberal city in Austin and slightly more conservative traditional cities in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Plus you still can get a good helping of southern culture/food/etc...Tennessee I don't have as much experience with but I imagine Nashville would be a lot of fun.

New York and Ohio are terrible. Not a fan of the "culture" of either state at all. Not to mention New York is outrageously expensive. Probably more so than any place not named San Francisco.

Eh....I’d put Mass. as a close second now that I think about. I’d love to be close to Boston and watch the Red Sox.

My list would be:
Massachusetts
Texas
Upstate NY
Tennessee
Ohio

Mass has a lot of things going for it, especially boston. Texas has the no income tax and cheaper standard of living than MA. Upstate NY has very friendly people and you can experience a true fall but the winters suck. Tenn is good if you want to stay in the south. Ohio is just terrible.

Tennessee
Pros: Spent a lot of time there so no big adjustment. Nice scenery. Centrally located for easy vacations to northern or southern destinations.
Cons: Questionable loyalty to the cause.

Texas
Pros: The stars at night are big and bright
Cons: Reconquista

New York, Ohio, Massachusetts
Pros: Ummmmmmmmm....
Cons: Full of yankees.

Texas or Tennessee for me.

Definitely rule out NY or MA just because I don't want to live surrounded by yankee liberals. Ohio seems like it would be boring.

If TN, you almost have to factor private school in your cost of living.

It's unreal how dogshit the schools are here.

From your list, New York State is really underrated. Saratoga is pretty awesome for a family.

Tennessee first Texas second. If I could choose from all states North Carolina would be my second to Tennessee. Really just because of the Smokey Mountains. Love it there. Looking forward to retiring there.
