1)Tennessee (my first choice) Pros: closer to family, nice scenery, most temperate option, low COL
Cons: Low pay (breaks even with COL), shitty schools, crime of course.
Nashville doesn't fit that description.

Tennessee
Closer to family, cost of living is relatively low, good weather, and no state income tax

This is what I would say as well (assuming texas meant near or in Austin). Dallas I could maybe stomach, but that's about it for Texas.

being close to family is a nice to have, but Texas should be No. 1 on your list...specifically, Houston

its like ~20 degrees in NY, Mass., and Ohio right now. f that. the thought of rotting your life way for 1/4 of the year makes me queasy
its 60 degrees today in the south and thats even a tad chilly.
texas is my pick by default

If you want to move to east Texas, why not just stay in Louisiana?

Had me, had me, had me, lost me. Houston is awful.

The top three best public schools in the state are in Shelby County, the single-best being in Memphis.
People can throw the boogeyman crime word around, but the vast, vast majority of crime in Memphis is confined to a few zip codes in the far south and far north of the city. The vast majority of Memphians or people who work in Memphis never have to worry about going to these areas. I've lived inside the I-240 loop and outside and all over, and there are plenty of decent places to live in Memphis without living in the suburbs.
If you can get past that and accept that Memphis isn't the worst place in the world, you'll also probably discover what the city has to offer.
But until then, morons from the other side of the state will continue to talk out the side of their neck.

Tennessee easily. The further east you go, the better TN gets.

Memphis crime rate is way too high.

I lived in Memphis and I agree. It does have a lot to offer, plenty to see and do. But the ghetto just seems to spread more and more every time I go back.

And for 1/4 of the year it is miserably hot in LA while it’s 75 with lower humidity in NY/MA.
If you prefer the heat to the cold, believe me I get it.
But let’s not pretend that there isn’t a miserable point of the year to live in LA.

I can jump in the pool or go for a boat ride if I get that miserable.
Plus now that most vehicles have remote start I never have to get into a hot truck ever again.

I lived in Texas and moved back to Tennessee first chance I could get.
