I was a travel nurse from 2005-2007.
It is good money but worrying about if you will have a job every 13 weeks does get old after a while. Great way to pay off debts or save up money though.

Tennessee or Mass.Texas can be good but not in the areas you mentioned.

My understanding is that if you get with an agency, it is possible that they will find you a new posting at the end of every contract and you can roll right into it

They will certainly help you with that, my recruiter was awesome. Sometimes you can even just extend your contract for another 13 weeks. I stayed at one hospital for 13 months by doing this.
The downside.....they can cancel your contract as well anytime they want. I have had friends travel to their next assignment and find out days later that the hospital cancelled all their travel RN contracts. So they are scrambling around trying to find an assignment. Also....you may not be able to find an assignment in the area you want....so you end up taking anything you can get. Just an FYI, travel nursing is great but it does have it’s challenges.
Eta: I can’t remember the name but there was an online forum for travel nurses. Great way to find out about potential hospitals you might get an assignment at. Etc. You can learn what hospitals you absolutely do NOT want to work at.

Cool. Yea like I said in the OP, I plan on 1-2 years tops.
Yea, I’ve checked out allnurses but it’s just full of whiny women (no offense) their complaints on that site all seem so trivial so some of it is hard to take seriously.
I’m going to do ER for my experience, I figure this way I get a ton of experience in the least amount of time. Cliche, I know. I’ll probably float for extra pay during my off time,

You can’t do it right out if school. You need at least a year or two of experience.
You get almost no orientation for your assignment. You are expected to be ready to work right from the bat. So you need some nursing experience under your belt so you can easily adapt to each different hospital.

Texas I've lived there when I was in the USAF, also the people and the taxes (or lack of) and it's close to family in LA.
Mass - no way due to politics and taxes and weather
NY - not interested
Ohio - family there and it's depressing and weather
Tennessee - live close enough now in Atlanta to enjoy Tennessee camping hiking and rafting.

1) NY - Upstate NY is incredible beautiful for like 80% of the year. There are tons of outdoorsy activities, and you are within driving distance to the widest range of activities you can find from Manhattan to rural Maine. The only downside I could see is the state taxes.
2) Tennessee - Nashville/Franklin are awesome places. Not as big of a culture shock and close enough for weekenders home. Still pretty close to some major cities but also have good outdoorsy stuff nearby
3) Texas - Personal financial growth will be beyond probably anywhere else in the country. Lot's of stuff to do, Austin/hill country is great. A lot of outdoorsy stuff, but I'm more of a mountains guy.
4) Massachusetts - Same pros as NY but down the list due to COL. As a history buff it'd be pretty fricking cool to live in new england. That area of the countries past is extremely romanticized.
5) Ohio - I just wouldn't move to this hellhole. Seriously it's the opiod capital of the world, enough said.

Crime numbers in Tennessee are skewed by Memphis. I've seen a couple of websites that rank it the worst metro area for crime in the U.S. Memphis #1 at something
Being in Knoxville...I'm nearly 400 miles away from that rat hole. Outside of Memphis, crime in Tennessee isn't that bad.
