I lived in Austin and mostly loved it. Traffic is horrible and it's hot as shite, but coming from LA, you should be used to that. The cost of both living and housing have also skyrocketed, and California has basically taken over. Austin is a little less weird and a little more douchey these days, but I lived there for over a decade so it will always hold a very special place in my heart.
I currently live in Boston and I really like it. It's cold as shite but as long as you dress appropriately, it's not that bad...plus, I walk almost everywhere so it doesn't feel as cold if you're constantly moving. The people are a lot nicer than advertised, there's tons of history and lots to do. Public transportation is my favorite thing ever, and there is lots of great food and craft beer up here. However, it is extremely expensive.
These are the only two I have opinions on, but they're both great...it just depends on what you're looking for.

I lived in CT for three years so I spent a lot of time up there. I really don't mind Western MA at all. She is from the Worcester area, and I don't mind it out there at all.

Despite what everyone on here thinks, all of this is accurate. Having access to the T is really great, and people here are perfectly friendly - just not the overly friendly style that we're used to in the South. And I always laugh when people claim the food up here sucks - clearly they've either never been here or went to a bunch of tourist traps.

Tennessee- beautiful state, has all 4 seasons, seem to be governed efficiently.
Texas- good government, alto of different things to do
New York- cool climate, interesting history
Massachusetts- plenty of entertainment, cool history

Where in TN? There's a lot of great school systems in TN and low crime in most areas. If you're moving to Memphis, then yeah... crime and shite schools there.

There at least were some great public schools in Germantown and Collierville TN. Plus you have the great BBQ of Memphis.

Vastly overrated, and crime is creeping further and further out from Memphis. My ex-girlfriend lived in Germantown before moving to Nashville, and the times I visited her there, I didnt feel safe, even in the "nicer" area she lived in.
I love Nashville, been here over three years, but I wouldnt move anywhere else in the state.

Man, that part is actually true. I’ve spent a ton of time in Mass and it’s 75% Hillary voter. I don’t mean to stereotype, but that part of it is true. You have to own that.

Chattanooga seemed really nice when I have visited. I personally would certainly consider moving there.
