Hawaii and Alaska are great vacation destinations. Texas and Arkansas are great as well. I’d love to eventually visit Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore, there’s great skiing in the Rockies, Omaha is west of the Mississippi so LSU CWS trips are still on the table, nearly all of Louisiana’s hunting and fishing is done west of the river, plus Ferriday is west of the river and that sort of seals it for me.

Forget politics because both sides have their share of liberal bs. For beauty and awesome weather the west is hard to beat. Have to say forget Texas Nebraska Kansas. Dakotas Iowa and Minnesota are ok but Colorado Idaho Utah Wyoming Montana Cali Oregon Washington are beautiful.

East side has Georgia Tennessee Carolinias Virginia's parts of Pennsylvania Vermont New Hampshire and Maine.

West side all day long and it’s not even close:
Rocky Mountain
Pacific NW
Ozarks
Can still hit South La for festivals and crawfish
Texas Gulf Coast - certainly not Florida beaches, but frick 30A
Southern Cal with Yosemite and Tahoe
And then you add Alaska and Hawaii!!!

This is not even close if you have any desire for outdoors

What do you miss?
New Orleans and other southern historical cities
NE
Southern Appalachians
Florida Keys and beaches
Some big cities and metro areas.

I’ll take getting away into wide open spaces every time on the west side every time

You do realize from St Louis, MO you can travel West and get to America’s East Coast?

As far as using the Mississippi River to decide which half of North America I prefer?

It’s a tie. There’s great and there’s abysmal things and people on either side.

L.A. generally bites, but Malibu, beaches, Tahachape, SD, Catalina, Bay Area, Monterrey/Carmel, Pebble Beach, Wine country, Yosemite, Big Sur, Death Valley (not this time of year), Redwoods, Sequoia, PC Hwy…could go on.

You do realize there is way more to the state of California than just the cities right? To base an entire humongous gorgeous state off of a city or cities is stupid lol.

And to answer the OPs question, I’d go west 10/10 times. Way more beautiful landscape to be seen on the western side of the country. There are no states on the eastern side of the country that can contend with Hawaii, Alaska, California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana when it comes to pure scenery and beauty.
