It may seem that way but ADA requirements roughly breaks down to about 2% of spaces be reserved for handicap with some other guidelines like 1 space for lots of 25 and under and 2 spots for lots of 50 and under. You just always walk past the potentially unused ones and see them right by the front door. Recency bias at play.

When I was about 44 I played in an indoor soccer league and snapped my Achilles. I asked my doctor for an authorization for a temporary handicap tag as the distance from my work parking lot was a long way to the entrance. He told me no, those are for people with real problems and I was young and healthy enough to deal with it.

Treatment must have improved since mine was sewn back together in 1999. I was in a cast for 6 weeks I think. Then a brace for a month while I underwent physical therapy.

Unless you yourself are mobility impaired and the place you are visiting doesn't have enough impaired parking sports - - why do you care? Man, enjoy the time in your life when you can park at the outer end of the lot and get some freakin exercises. Everyone wants to be the boss of someone these days. Just mind your own business

It used to bother me when I drove MIL around and she needed a handicap space. I park a hundred yards away from store entrances most of the time now. I don’t mind walking and this tactic keeps my ride from being smacked around by other parker’s doors.

BS. You have no way of knowing what their impairment is. My dad and my mom both had handicap plates and they both needed them. I'd have one myself but I can't even leave my house except for doctor's appointments now because it's too much of a pain getting my wheelchair in and out the door.
Of all the things to complain about and you pick this? That's about right for this place.
I hope you're never in a position where you need one of those plates or placards. It sucks arse.

It's the same in Louisiana, and you have to physically show up at the DMV in person to drop off the paperwork. I have my form already filled out by the doctor, but it just doesn't really make any sense for me to do it at least at this point. Maybe one day if I get to where I can walk even with a walker I'll do it, but right now I'm in a wheelchair and I can't afford a wheelchair accessible van so I'm basically depending on others for rides, like the council on aging

I usually park far away in less populated spaces but this one has never bothered me.
Most people in general look semi handicapped or older.

My step mother is in an assisted living facility. She doesn't drive but she was able to get handicap placards for me and my brother to use when taking her to appointments/grocery store etc.
Mine stays in the glove box until I use it for her but I guarantee a good portion of these are being abused.
When I take her to the grocery store or Sams the handicap spots are almost always full. It's bullshite.

I’m sure it’s abused, but I think the majority of people who have them would prefer not needing them. When my husband was going through chemo, he finally asked for one and it was one of the most heartbreaking days of my life.

In Alabama, I can guess the ethnicity and weight of the person in the handicapped spot with 95% accuracy. Other than being fat and lazy, I’ve never seen anyone with what I considered to be a real issue.

Elderly people and handicapped people are not the same thing. Elderly people do not get to park in handicapped spots.
